Schoolin crisis

Given the current crisis in Doha regarding the lack of school places, is anything currently being done about it?

Are there going to be more schools coming online?

I understand now that both Cedars and Compass are now full as well.

I arrived into Doha beg of Sept, i have called all the schools and they are all currently full. My kids are native english speakers and have been following the uk national curriculum. One is in year 4 and the other in year 6. We applied to Dess, they took the entrance exam and they did not get in because they said the kids did not the english vocab!! They took a test at Qatar Academy, they didnt get in the reason being that the test are of very high standard. I have tried all the other school QIS, DC, Newton, park house. Even the tutoring centres are full!! So now my kids have no school at the moment and are on waiting lists until something comes up. Something must be done about the lack of english school in Doha.

I am very pleased for your children, Lilo. Now all you have to worry about is how to pay the school fees at ASD (and all of the extras they have not told you about yet...)

My kids just left Cedars because they made it in to ASD. They have both English as second language and no company which is sponsor. So it is possible. They went three weeks at Cedars before the move.

Dear Moondancer, have you tried Newton International School? What exactly did they say?

Well where to begin, there are only two french schools in Doha the one my child is in is not so good,As I am not french I do not go to the top of the french list and the other school is full.As I am not english yet english speaking soI cannot get him into an english school ether as I yet again do not have first option, just get put on a waiting list, so what options does that leave me with. Home schooling or finding tutors for each of his subjects. Not the best solution for a seven year old who needs friends and a social life.

Most disillusioned to find that children can be refused an education here in Doha

N.I.S. have just opened a new school on the D ring road. You might perhas find it interesting to contact the new headmistress and speak to some of the new parents.

I know its not much, but I am writing a story about this very subject at the moment for Gulf Times. If anyone has any experience of trying to find a place after recently coming to doha then please get in touch - i would love t hear from people going through this very difficult situation. It is simply terrible that people are coming here and cannot get into good schools - and it is no fault of the schools - they can only take a certain amount of people. Something must be done, but its hard to see what at the moment.

But like i said, anyone who has any interest or experience in this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Cheers
