what benefits could a secretarial get under husband sponsor?

By amber2007

Hello to everyone,
i am a new comer of qatar living and upon reading some of thoose posted questions, i didn't realize im one of the person who needs help.
I am under husband sponsor and working in a furniture showroom, my question is what benefits could i get when it comes to salary? i'll be 1 year this coming november, in detail to my salary, i only earn 2500.00 riyals, and i pay for my transportation, though i admit i cannot save because most of my salary goes to may car loan as you know it here in qatar i find hard waiting for the taxi going for work. What am i entitled to as a husband sponsor? how much should i be earning for the position of secretary? how much is the basic salary of secretary?
Does this include the following:
transpostation? how much
ticket? one way or return?

How if i don't receive the above mentioned? will i try to find another job? what will i do? is 2500 enough for a secretarial position?

could you help me about this? i'll be happy for your answers

thanks,
amber2007

we were talking about a Secretary, not the electrical engineers..lol...engineer may make i guess 15-20-30 Grand and more....And also BTW, I know one electrical engineer Filipino.. his total package is... wow! QR6000... now tell me, which german or australian enginer on the earth will work for 6000 riyal? It is a matter of market...if the company can not afford to pay 30000 to german they pay 6000 to filipino.. his is sad reality...

to amigo,

well when it comes to gf and bf stuff. I guess you dont have to tell me about this because i am married, and yet i would rather suggest you to speak with those guys whom you observe not to do the gf/bf thingy off. Not with me because i dont know them, i may be the same nationality of what you are observing but to tell you honestly, im a good and honest filipina here in qatar. If you can see some filipinas and filipinos together or get along with each other, sometimes they misinterpret them because we are just friendly. And they may be a filipinas playing single but as a friend Would you mind not include me? leave those guys alone and do whatever they want if they wanted to because you're out of that issue. And to tell you we have different cultures so deal with what you see because whatever you do it'll not be the same as what you think. Ignore is what i can suggest you when you see bf/gf thingy stuff.

hope you won't be offended. PEACE

To you all here,

thanks a lot for help, at least i wont ask anybody else that could give me a little bit confused thinking, at least here in the forum, im talking to the person who lives here long time, thanks a lot for all the comments and appreciate everything, it is not actually offending but in the truth part it is a nice feeling reading someone what they feel, not to mentioned a 1 sided person, i hope this forum will keep friendly as it is the way when i register.

thank you to all again

most filipinas come on time because that shows you being a professional, because most of us think it's better to go to the office 10-15 minutes earlier before the office hours, Filipinas tend to wake up early showing her appreciation and love of her work, well obviously I am filipina and like anybody else comment, yeah FRIENDLY..

thanks anyway for the comment, im happy though im not asking you to offer me a job or anything else, it's so nice of you. Usually they told me because i'm under husband sponsor, at least i should earn more because for the company im working, they are not able to pay my ticket, my visa, home accommodation, i mean earn enough for my position, so the reason why im asking here if i can be able to have the benefit of having a transportation allowance. How if i am a direct hire? will 2,500 or 3,000- 3,500 not enough to earn as it is because im local like anybody here said 2500 or 3000 enough for a local hire like me. Mostly how much should a company pay a local hire for a secretarial position? is it only 2500 or 3000?

I am looking for such a secretary who conducts meetings. If she excels in OTHER THINGS.:)no matter what nationality. You r in for a big pay check. This is my observation.

I have nothing to complayn about!..Hamdullillah!!that's what exacly I am saying: it's the Qatary intention to give the priority to their own people, and this is great! I like this idea, and i think they are doing absolutely right. I am just stating the fact...

I just want to clarify my point of view. I do not say that the fact that you are western gives you automatically higher salary! I would say it depends on the company. If the Company is rich and can offer for Secretary position 10,000, this company will take a western. If company is poor and offers 3000 for secretary, the Filipina will take it, and the western will find something better... this is a market situation: high paid positions are most likely to be given to westerns, and low paid positions are taken by Filipinas. (Why is that?.. see Maria.m' s last post - i agree with that one)..

Agreed or not but the fact is that on the basis of your passport and the color of your skin and eyes if do get an added advantage.Very unfortunate but it is there. One of our Clients (a Govt organisation)agreed on a pay package of 40,000 for an asian(foreign qualified and experienced) with a foreign passport and 60,000 for a native english speaker.

I speak only for expat (including arab expat). There is a lot of diff. between the secretarial scope of work for asians/filipinos/arabs in comparison to westerners. ALSO, compare an official letter written by the first to the one written by later. (No offence here to any particular nationality). Compare the way a meeting is conducted, client is handled by the first to later. One who excels in the secretarial positions is rewarded accordingly NO MATTER WHAT NATIONALITY. This is my observation.

they r paid the same scale as us but 1 thing is they get extra allowance called Qatari allowance.

Its their right we should not complain...

btw i work for a q company its somewhat like a semi government office we get the same benifits like govt. office

i am speaking in general, as a rule.. and every rule has an exeption, as we know... in your office all work equally, because some westerns agreed to work for 4000-5000, that's it. And nothing wrong with that, by the way.. I admire people who is willing to volonteer, it's absolutely beautiful! But again, if the position (let's talk about the Secretary position in particular!)in some company is offered for QR10,000, in this case 99.9999% it will be given to western, not to filipina.. i think it's clear...

u r wrong those days r long gone...

we all know that the most of government position to be given to qataries, and the government pays well (very well!!) to them. I am sure that some qatari secretary in some government organization is taking at least 10,000.. and it doesns't matter that she shows up to work, following by her personal maid, who is carrying her lunch in box (doesn’t apply to Ramadan!), and cleaning her desk, and even helps her with english-arabic translation, as the secretary herself knows English next to zero. Because this is a Qatari Government intention: to fill up openings with the qatary nationals as much as possible.. Filipinas even not close to these places…

it's easy. If some big strong company (spesially the western one) has an opening for let's say "Executive Secretary" with the salary range of 7,500 - 10,000, they even wouldn't consider to invite filipinas or indians for the interview (and it's not that I am a racist, it is just a fact!), because they have enough of western "friends of friends" to fill up this position with this kind of salary! On the other hand, if some small company can afford to pay only QR 3000 for the Executive Secretary position, i believe that very few westerns would consider taking this position. So who is working for 3000? Filipinas. Who is working for 9000? Westerns. It is a market situation, and of course not a Company's policy!

Celsayed, if you are westenr it doesn't give you automatically QR 12000 or 15000 a month. You have to be lucky to find the appropriate company to get this salary. I know nurses that are getting 2500 a month only!!!

I have to agree with Kelly and Qatarisun. Thats the trend out here.. the package and the benifits in MANY cases totally depend on the nationality and the passport. Dont want to name companies here but I know of instances where an asian guy with a Canadian or an Australian passport earning more than his counterpart with the same qualifications and some times better experience just because the former happens to hold a different passport!! Try to beat that !!

In btw, have a friend who migrated recently to Canada - he is planning on changing his name to a more western name so that when he gets back here - he would be branded more of a western candidate and he can get the benifits accordingly when applying for a job! Strange.. but true!!

Its sad as many have pointed out - there are many occassions where in qualified and great candidates are stuck with poor packages just because of their nationality and the factor that keeps this trend going on is the sponsorship laws. The moment thats scrapped off.. boy oh boy - I would love to see the rat race thats gonna happen! But I guess its just a dream that might never come true!

Mariam - in the ideal world - what you said works. But in the real world here - its does not happen - and its no where close to it.

Amber - Based on how good you are at what you do - you should be able to make a lot more than this. Send me ur CV - let me see if I can do some thing.

KH, my comments were not directed towards you. However, if you have taken offence, I appologise. The reason I deleted my comments is because they were open for mis-interpretation. Though, I still firmly believe that pay package has nothing to do with a person's nationality or spending habits.

Ok, so because I am a western and I speak just a little arbic, however I can not read it. I am working as a secretary in a hospital in america and I am finishing up my classes for medical terms. I have had over 15 yrs doing office work and I have a 5 year background working as a Manage for differnet pizza delivery companies. So when I get over to Qatar I would be able to get a job making 15000qr? I am waitting for my husband, he is there now. How long does it take for my husband to get the sponership done? And what do I need to do on my end as far as the sponership and getting a job there in Qatar?

I think salary is based on the job responsibilities you handle. In case you feel that you have not negotiated well, you may approach your employer after a substantial period and try to renegotiate. Again, your pay package is based on your input and not your financial needs or nationality.

WHERE?? where did you start your classes, dear??

Amber, it really depends on your qualification and your nationality i would say. Filipinas usually are given around 2500-3500, it's ok. Lebanese I guess for the same type of job take home around 6000-6500. westerns may get 8000-12000. Qataries are given 10000-14000 for the same type of position. And it's not necessary to be bilingual at all. Some positions are required perfectly English speaking people, and are given to western people... And qataries usually speak English next to nothing. But these two categories (westerns and qataries) are paid higher than anybody else.

And of course your skills are taken into consideration.

Why do you think that you can benifit from the fact that you are under your husband's sponsorship?

BTW,one small suggestion. Please don't ask your prospective employer "What am i entitled to as a husband sponsor".. otherwise he/she will think that YOU are the one who is sponsoring your husband!..lol...

Salary depends on your qualifications. And most important if you are bilingual. Provided you find the proper place to work that really needs your skills.

Salary should be around 5000 -if not more - provided u know arabic and english

usually no additional benefits are provided in your case.
