Hi guys i went to Mirqab to look for the korean supermarket mentioned here, but couldn't find it. I asked the people in Moon Palace and they told me the supermarket has moved to a new location. Does anyone know where I can find a Korean supermarket?

Am crazily craving for some Shin Ramen....

Oh shanghai chicken is so delicious.

VERY VERY spicey.

Shanghai Chili seeds, with some spices mixed with a bit of soy, they then fry some of these chubby red chilis and mix them with strips of chicken just for design.

SOOO delicious! How much is Shin? In the UK they were like 8 riyals for one pack, and it was 12 Riyals for Yakisoba.

What's shanghai chicken? Is it like ginsing chicken in Korea? Ginsing chicken is a whole chicken rubbed with ginger, garlic, etc.; stuffed with rice; and boiled with ginsing, green onions, etc.

Shiin Ramyun is my favourite ramien also. It goes good with tuna or an egg (boiled with the ramien). It's 3 times the price in Korea but this is imported.

Moon Palace has a large lighted sign-board. It's on one of those short service roads next to shops on Mirqab Street. The chef is Phillipino but the flavour is still fairly Korean. My wife likes Korean Garden more but I find them similar. Korean Garden is brighter and less heavy-looking than Moon Palace.

Korean culture is blossoming in Doha. The Korean Wave is coming!

Moon Palace is down Mirqab Street from Doha Clinic Hospital (driving from C-ring). The fact that the restaurant and the hospital are near each other is not important. Going to the former USUALLY doesn't necessitate going to the latter. However, once I had to visit Doha Clinic Hospital after getting food poison from eating bad squid at Moon Palace. My wife likes me to keep this quiet. Moon Palace is in last group of shops before Giant Store (on the right side of the street).

I'll ask my wife about hanbuks made in Qatar. My daughter does have two (infant-size and current preschooler-size). Out of the many stay-at-home Korean wives in Doha there must be someone who could make a homemade hanbuk if you give them the material (purchased from the souqs). I had my wedding hanbuk made by a lady at her home. I'll ask my wife.

Azilana 7037, please tell me about this Korean Store across from the Khaleej Times. Where is it?

I do remember a store that says KOREAN STORE just across the street from where Kaleej Times building is. I'll check it out later when I pass that way again...

Would you really recommend the Korean market on Mirqab? I haven't been. Been to both Moon Palace and Korean Garden and there's no competition, the best bulgogi and kimchi is at Moon Palace. Although I have to admit that kimchi is a little mild for my tastes.

Do they have salted kim? there's some chilly flavoured kim at Mega Mart but you get like 5 slices for 50 riyal. :P

A lot of Korean food is hot and sour (as Kimchi is). Learn to love it...as I have!

Ha ha ha, good times. I'm sure there are some awkward moments at the Korean church... or else some great donnybrooks to watch. Might have to start going to the Korean church for the entertainment value there.

Anyhoo, thanks for the tip on the market. Might have to call in to get seaweed. Even though we grazed on it in Japan like sea cows, whenever someone went to Korea and had to pick up the obligatory souvenir, you can well guess the stereotypical gift which was brought back-- seasoned seaweed and kimchi. I must say I like the seaweed. The kimchi, no offense meant, can go back into the ground to happily ferment some more.

Since my QL name is Korean, I can honestly tell you the Korean Food Centre on Mirqab Street has a pretty good selection. My wife and I go there weekly to stock up on seaweed, anchovie, hot pepper paste, pickled radish, kimchi, and the instant noodles. I personally like the instant noodles with a big yellow Chinese character on a red background ("Shin" is the brand, I think).

Korean people are quite ingenious in "smelling" small business opportunities. Korean Bakery and Arirang Bakery both opened this way, not to mention the two Korean restaurants (Moon Palace & Korean Garden). Interesting enough, owners of both restaurants are deacons at the same Korean church in Doha. This leads to some interesting confrontations as they compete for visting Koreans, etc. With typical Korean short-tempers, sparks can quickly fly.

The Japanese stuff at MegaMart is a pretty good selection. Some items, of course, are pricey. As with everything in Doha. Most of the things, though, aren't terrible.

Beware, though. I bought miso, and then I looked at the date, and it is to expire in December. I'll be making a lot of soup.

You can also improvise for the basics, of course.

I know one korean supermarket at Al Mirgab. But the sukiyaki or bulgogi meat not available there. You can find some Japanese & korean stuff at MegaMart both at Landmark mall or the center. Good luck
