Hi!

I just received an sms today from fanar.

You may want to reserve a seat as they will be starting another class soon. Reservation starts from today until the 31st of March.

I have studied first level Arabic(private) from a fanar Instructor(reading, writing and speaking)and they're great. They will really push you to learn. I suggest you study the language there as they're really experts.

Classes are usually after office hours so that shouldn't be a problem.

Visit their website www.fanar.gov.qa

Hello, my name is Matthew. I am an Arabic student here in Doha at Qatar University. I have studied Arabic for 3 years now, 2 in the U.S. and 1 in Morocco/Yemen. If any beginner level students are looking for a tutor in MSA Arabic, I am more than capable/willing to help. I am not a native speaker, but do have a strong background in the language and have experience tutoring Arabic to American college students. I charge 40 Riyal per hour of instruction. If you are interested in my tutoring services, want to see my resume, or simply have a question about learning Arabic in Doha I can be contacted at the following email address: [email protected]

Hi everyone !. I do not reccomend STENDEN UNIVERSITY . I went to take a beginner´s course and the group of people who were supposed to be beginner´s , they took that class already , most people weren´t really beginner´s as they knew how to speak some arabic but they didn´t know how to write !. They put all not advanced arabic students in the beginner´s group !!!. Can you believe it ? The beginner´s classes are misrepresented by the staff and on top of that the class which only lasts ONE MONTH is NOT CHEAP at all !, 1500Rs and it´s non refundable. As a consequence of the different levels in all the students in the beginner´s group , the teacher speeds and the real beginners suffer the class instead of enjoying it !. I speak several foreign languages and it´s never happened to me something like this so I think people SHOULD KNOW about it !.

Thanks for the tip, Qatarina.

Hi Think 2 - I meant a private teacher, so the class times can be more flexible. You're right, I'm not sure how we can check their qualifications, unless they're recommended by someone. I can ask around (eg school teachers?). I don't know anyone else interested in learning, though. Saw 2 ads for language classes in the Gulf Times on Thurs - Qatar Learning 4322247 & Intl Academic Society 4554068. But again, no idea how qualified the teachers would be.

Hi wyp,

You mean a private teacher, or those semi-private (2-3 students) groups that Berlitz offers?

I would be interested to join those semi-private groups, if for a private teacher, I don't know how we could check if (s)he has the desired qualification or training for tuition.

Do you have friends who are interested as well?

Thank you Qatarina.

It's the options I was looking for. I've learned Mandarin Chinese with the help of podcasts from http://www.chinesepod.com So I thought it would be great to find a site like that to learn Arabic too, but no where to find!

http://www.madinaharabic.com/index.htm It is a free online site for english speakers who wish to learn arabic. it has a separate lesson for those who can read arabic and those who may have to learn the arabic alphabets first. they also have audio so you can hear how the words sound like. and it's pretty simple and they guide you step by step...maybe you could take a look at this site first and familiarize yourself with it before enrolling in a class. only setback is it is one-way so you will need to practice with others in a social situation. but the site should get you going. I like it. trying to brush up my arabic. coming to Doha soon.all the best.

Think2, are you interested in finding a tutor for private lessons? I called Berlitz again & they've changed the time of the class and I can't make it that early so I'm looking at other options again.

The guy who answered the phone told me it's for 4-7 people.

Hello wyp,

Originally, I planned to enroll for Berlitz but I was out of town & missed their starting lesson. For QR2080, is it semi-private with 3-5 students, or bigger groups say 15 students?

Thanks.

Think2, have you started your classes yet? I found out Berlitz group classes are cheaper - QR2080 so I'm planning to sign up for the class starting on 25/11. The Language Teaching Institute offers classes for very little fees, but it's only for those working with the govt. Qatar Guest Centre also started classes but only for men. CHN has another class starting in Jan.

Hjsarwar - if you have the contact details for ibn-e-Taimia, can you please let me know? Thanks.

tel. 485-2710, the Lady's name is Rasha. She is very nice. I just called her, she said that it will be a course opened right after Ramadan, but she is still not sure about how many hours a week it will be, and about all other details. She advised to call again on Sunday, and she will have more information about it.

I also plan to do university course. I know they will start on 21-Oct, but I don't know their class schedule, e.g. how many classes a week, what time, how long, venue, etc. I sent email to ask them but got no response.

If you have, would you mind telling me as well?

Thanks.

There are free Arabic language classes organized by Islamic Centre/Guest Centre (can't remember the correct names). Qatar University offers classes but students need to pay.
