"if you cannot take it, leave it"

This stupid saying you can see almost in every thread now: "if you cannot take it, leave it.." It's wrong statement. World is moving on and developing ONLY for one reason: somebody doesn't want to take it as it is, and wants to change it for better one! These people are LEADERS, strong persons, progress movers..
Others, who "either takes it leaves it" are losers!

When you make an offer to the other person, say 'take it or leave it'.

Leave a long pause after this, just looking expectantly at them (or maybe leaving them to stew for a while by themselves).

Show that if they leave it, then this is not important to you, for example by demonstrating your walk-away beforehand, or by acting in a casual manner.

Saying 'take it or leave it' is a form of Alternative Close, that offers two choices, but where one is intended as being unacceptable, thus forcing the actual choice.

If the other person has a walk-away alternative, then leaving it may be a very real option, so be careful about using this method in such circumstances (for example by making sure your walk-away is better).

In my mere opinion, this is not a wrong statement at all however should be use in a case to case basis. Maybe other people find it irritating because of the repetition (to which I think it is only used as a normal quote as most of us put at the end of every comment). Some people are just careless to check the relevance of the “saying” to the topic and we are just critics to notice this. At the end of the day, it’s his/her choice and encouraging him / her to take a risk (take it or do something but don’t just leave it) are the progressive movers.

There has to be two sides of a coin...To value vision, you should know what is darkness,... to value fragrance, we need to have smelt bad...Similarly, in this world, somebody has to lose and somebody has to win, somebody has to leave it and somebody has to take it... Imagine there was no loser, who would know what is a gain? ....Just expressing opinion on a statement does not make me a loser or a gainer... This is closed minded approach to a debate

...You can't mean what you say unless you can say what you mean...

there have been those in my life I've hoped to instill some joy, positivity & inspiration and found its a lost cause in some cases, so I move on, knowing that I've done my absolute best - coz I don't do anything in half measures :)

I focus on what difference I have already made in the world - you don't know me at all - but it's a lot...

I agree Gypsy that the new traffic law is a merit of all of us. And this is only the first step. The law itself is not going to change bad driving habits in 2 days, or maybe even in two months. But step by step, shwai-shwai, people will get more organized (at least those who have a grey matter in their heads).

Sometimes it takes generations to get some global positive changes happened. And we thank our great-grandfather, that he was not too lazy or to passive to say: “I’ll better leave it rather than take it..”

And our great-grandsons/daughters will thank us for not being too passive to say: “I’ll better leave it than take it..”. Even complain helps, as Gypsy said. It is a very first step in every change.

Of course, starseed sometimes we have to move on and to give up on something we cannot get or reach or change. Sometimes giving up requires even more spiritual strength than fighting. But it’s a different story…

There are a lot of people on this forum who actually go out and do things instead of just complain. And even just complaining isn't always a bad thing. Look at the new driving laws, no doubt those were started because of all the expats complaining.

Oops.. U seem to be quite on the case! Chill..

If its the same person in all threads - yeah - what you say makes sense. If its different people - well - for each person - priorities and attitude towards different things may vary. Hence the passiveness.

Now dont get on to my case - just addin in a perspective. I dont use that phrase so dont pin me on the wall. :D

I see what u mean.. those are the dudes who need to move right along I guess - what they doing with those comments is wasting everybody's time - they need to go do something else.. if one can't contribute positively to a thread then they must go away.. :)

But on the other hand we can sit all day discussing stuff/life/problems here - but do any of us actually go out and try out all the recommendations, etc? - just a thought.. A good thing is that the site is making more people aware of life 'out there'..

Thanks for your thought provoking topic.

..but they put this phrase wherever it is not even appropriate at all..

We discuss a traffic law, immigration law, sponsorship law, there is always someone who inputs his “if you cannot take it, leave it”...

We discuss a life style, living cost, accommodation issue, there is always someone who inputs his “if you cannot take it, leave it”...

Whatever we discuss, there is always someone who inputs his “if you cannot take it, leave it”...

So what’s the point of creating of this Forum and discussing things, since there is the only one solution: “if you cannot take it, leave it”...This is a passive position.

Yes, sometimes this is a choice, i agree. But you cannot exchange finding the solution (or at least trying to find it) by this phrase every time! Leave this option for yourself, and let other to be more active....

At times you need to fight back.. at times you need try to make an impact and change things.. and at times - you just need to ignore it. It all depends on the situation. I find it difficult to generalize it across the board for all situations. Just imagine if every one tried to change or attempt to change things for each and every single thing - maaan that would be so annoying and chaotic. I think each topic or matter - its priority or relevance to each one of us varies and accordingly react.

But yes - agree - if we use this approach for all situations - thats a looser!

maybe the whole phrase has been taken out of context.. maybe it just reminds us that we have choices in life - that's where real personal power comes into play.. Who needs outward fame, when one knows within oneself that the choice made was for the good of self?

Just my opinion...

I m doin alrite buddy...things goin on not how i expect or want it...lot of pressure on me...but still with ppl like u round...managing to drag along...

Logic...well...tough one to say...2 sides of the coin...everyone who doesnt want it if they leave it...then we dont get it anywhere...the other side of the coin...everyone who starts to attempt to change it...cant do that...most of them miss out...they loose confidence...they loose spirits...so normally ppl are fine the way it is...u know its more like in Hindi they say..."Zindagi Chaltha Hain" that means "Life GOES ON"///

May be that was the original meaning: “cannot take it for yourself, leave it for someone stronger…”... you kind of admit that you are loser..lol....then it makes some sense at least…

Completely agree. Where would we be if Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King and simply decided to leave it.
