Anybody know anything about the Flamenco Jazz concert, Nov 15?

Tuesday's Gulf Times (November 13, 2007, p. 11) mentions that the Spanish embassy with the National Council for Culture, ARts and Heritage of Qatar, is sponsoring a Flamenco jass performance at the Qatar National Theatre on November 15.

Fran Molina will be performing with his quartet.

But the article does not mention the time or cost (tickets I'm presuming would be available at the door but wouldn't mind confirmation on this too). Does anyone have details? If so, please post them here or PM me.

Thanks.

(And why can't newpapers in this town print the details--what's the point of reporting on an upcoming event if you keep the details a secret?--but I digress).

I just rang the Spanish embassy... indeed it is by invitation only! Alas.....

Their IVR system lets you press 3 for English (sorry, I can't navigate the Arabic or Spanish menus) and then whatever option you press (including 4 for cultural events, or 0 for an operator) just has the system hang up on you.

That's Spanish culture for you...

So why even issue a press release before the event announcing it if it is by invitation only? This is really ticking me off!

There's this small monthly publication called "Qatar Happening" that claims to be Qatar's monthly events guide. It's got few info on the events going on in Doha. I wouldn't call it incredibly informative, but this is the best there is for now. You can usually find it at hotel lobbies.

This is probably amongst the best events I've heard of in Doha since I got here!!

I rang up the embassy and they told me it's an invitation only event (corporates, embassies etc.) :(. However, the guy who answered was helpful enough and told me to hang about the entrance around 7pm in case some of the invitees don't show up. And then they can let you in to fill in those seats FOC. No guarantee though.

Unfortunately things like this are word of mouth between expat community. The Gulf Times is useless ... most of the time the put the write up after the events.

I am just wondering , is there some certain place for such kind of advertisements? Is there some section in any newspaper where they post all the events going on in Qatar?

This area of promotions and advertisements of events is very weak in Doha.. There are so many of "Marketing and Promotion" guys in Qatar (never have seen that huge amount of them in any other country!).. and where are all of them? Why they don't promote and don't advertise these events?

Any reference where I can find this kind of info?
