on Hate Crimes. "Cant remember the exact topic but do remember some bits of a speech of a guy he said

If you kill a white person you get 10 years in jail

If you kill a black person you get 15 years in jail

all in the name of HATE CRIMES LEGISLATION

A fine example is O J simpson. Lets not criticize the court's decision or thou shall be be held in contempt of court.

Anyways I believe that the use of word discrimination would have been more appropriate by me.

Dont get me started on the laws for the protection of people based on their sexual orientation.

its altogether a different story when you are at the receiving end as compared to the Giving End.

For once lets switch places:)

I do not consider racism is the accurate description about few banks. Would rather call it ego or superiority. Such banks consider themselves doing you a favour if you are their customer.

Besides, most is not all banks tend to just dump their staff at the front desk without any training. So it is a matter of ignorance and lack of professionalism.

Personally I deal with CBQ. In general am satisfied. Certain funny instances happen but in general if I have to change my bank, I would select CBQ. BTW, I rarely visit the bank for parking considerations and to be honest, am a privilaged customer.

as a friend of mine says 'grow up in Soweto under apartheid and you will know what racism is' - it is a word to freely bandied around to explain mere ignorance and personal bad manners and to emotionally blackmail

i dont screech sexism all the time.... i just get on with things

scarlett - bank with them for five years my dear and then come back to me - - :)

well said PM...

a man very rudely barged in front of me in a q at supermarket whilst i was talking to the employee - I said politely excuse me...and he went mad - pulling the racist card. I just said no... what I dont like is rude people and you sir need to learn some manners... they are free but they are worth a lot. You can consider me racist or change your attitude.

I could have turned round and said and I think you are sexist p*g for pushing in front but where would that have got me? he was just ignorant

very good to me...at least the Rayyan branch has...always do what needs to be done, take the next person in line..no line jumping...I don't think its a certain bank but which BRANCH you go to. Like anything here in Doha, tho...yes you will have to wait a bit for the paperwork to go through...but that's anywhere..

"Everyone should be treated equally whether he is poor or rich."

A fine statement to make knoxcollege, and one many of us wish held true. Unfortunately it will never happen anywhere in the world, least of all here.

Being rich or poor has nothing to do with racism though. Racism, as the word suggest, is to do with race.

sometimes i admit i can't always tell if someone is being objectionable because

a) I am white

b) I am female

c) They are just objectionable with everyone.

if i can i check... and its funny when you get 'don't worry he is always rude to me'....no hopers!

well TCOM I agree with PM - it must be anti white or they are sexist and racist..

Horrendous

Service

Bank

Crap

I cant promise you how much i hate HSBC - TCOM and we differ in race and gender :)

QNB - fine - good opening hours - lots of locations

IBQ - seem fine seriously thinking of opening an account but can't pluck up the energy to go to hsbc first LOL

Doha bank - main branch fine and dandy - nasser street branch - appauling: sexist + racist... white females beware! I shut down my account and left in tears...humilliated.

Same experience happened to a friend too! Really horrible.

I believe racism is when certain people are preferred over others. Correct me if I am wrong.

So all the Qataris getting first class treatment in a bank just because they are rich than the rest should be considered fair?

Everyone should be treated equally whether he is poor or rich.

What would be the case if a teacher/professor pays special attention to a kid whose father is a Sheikh or donates huge sums to the college/university?

By Hummers_rock• 23 Nov 2007 18:35
Hummers_rock

Every single time I go to HSBC I see this treatment that t_coffee_or_me has described....

'Our freedom is but a light that breaks through from another world'

By tallg• 23 Nov 2007 18:35
tallg

It's not racism, it's just that when people don't queue (because they are either rude, ignorant or both) the staff are faced with a number of people trying to get served next, and in most cases they will serve whoever 'shouts loudest' because they probably haven't been trained what to do in those situations or are too scared to tell someone to join the queue. Hence PM is right, it's unprofessional. It happens everywhere here, not just in the banks.

they try their best, but... pretty often the stuff is just not trained well enough, or clerks are new...i had to apply for my bank card 3 times, and finally I got one ine 1,5 months! then i applied for the internet banking and have been waiting for 4 weeks already.. when i checked last time, they said: there is no application, so i applied again. Twice I had to give a notice of changing my address. Once I spent there about 1,5 hour to issue a bank draft payable to one of the canadian banks (nobody really knew how to do it).. and so on... but they always polite, and try to help you, but don't always know HOW... but other banks are not too much better.. i closed my bank account with Doha bank...and by the way they still send me messages with promotions, always in the middle of the night (what the h.e.l.l.??)
