the bbc is reporting this so it must be true!

Also last week in the Dubai paper I read that a 12 year old girl had been arrested for having elicit relations with men... basically her mother was prostituting her...........
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww I almost hurled up my (turkey) bacon and fried egg sandwich ...
if this is the case than Dubai needs sorting out.

but it exists here in Doha. Theres one hotel in particular that might as well advertise it in the paper. Its not my thing and i dont agree with prostitution , but its here in Doha and its no secret.

I m not living in my own dream world...I ve been to bars like the Orion I havent seen prostitution as rampant as in Dubai....

Like Orion, or any other bar.... Are there pros in Doha too?

Absolutely no clues at all.... And by the way the development in Dubai is ten fold compared to that in Doha , Its not the expats who are to be blamed it more or less revolves around the reaction of every individual to what is hyped by the media world and his inability to fight loneliness.....

I ve never seen pros in Doha either....... Can anybody give a convincing evidence to that fact.....

I think that prostitution here exists to a much lesser degree. Its no secret that male prostituion in Doha is alive and thriving!

Dubai are hypocrites. Why stop at the Chinese? What about Arab prostitutes? (it is not a secret that there is a huge trafficking of girls from morocco & Iraq). Or is it because their clients are VIP?

funny how a whole region is blamed for individual's bad deeds.

"WHy more expatriates more tourism more development and finally this continues unabated....."

Read my post, Im talking facts not fiction. Dont be blaming all this on 'more expats, more tourists'..thats ignornace beyond belief. I know this for a fact!!!!!! Its too easy to blame this all on the West.

Supply and Demand...its that simple. I could burst your dillusional bubble in one sentence, but im not getting into this.

Prostitition is Morally and Criminally wrong, but its not a western disease and its not specific to Dubai either.

The vegas of the middle east is called for the same reason........

Its the city of prostitution....... WHy more expats more tourism more development and finally this continues unabated.....

I have never come across any prostitutes in Doha......

I wasn't suggesting it as a remedy. Not all prostitution is rape. Only in circumstances where woman are forced to prostitute themselves is it another form of rape. This may well be the case with the prostitutes in the Middle East, I don't know. I think the lesser of two evils is for men to be paying consenting women to have sex, rather than going around raping women. I'm not advocating either though.

Off out now. Will look forward to reading future comments tomorrow morning.

I know several individuals that travel to Dubai regularly to visit underage "Girlfriends" ( thats they're preferred name)...Im saying nothing about Nationalities or Races, but the BBC is not lying. Dont be nieve. Is it wrong....ABSOLUTELY, but lets not turn this into another Westerner v Expat thread.

tallg ,

So, you're healing a wound by another one :)

I's just incredible that you are thinking about prostitution as a remedy to rape ? Prostitution is just another paid-for form of rape. Ask yourself please, why some women accep to offer their body for other to abuse for a miserable sum of money ?

Frog - what herne said is a valid point. We all know that some men are sick enough to rape. It could be that the option to pay for sex stops them going out and raping an innocent person instead.

Aghati lol I swear that I was going to post the same comment lol. I also liked the "must". Oryx good one :)

On the other hand I just would like to know more about those people caught . What nationality are they , and are they perm. workers there or on transit trips?

Another point is concerning that statement ".... for economic reasons" ??? Does Dubai needs prostitution to improve its economical status ?

herne ???? so you're suggesting more prostitution to lessen the rate of rapes ??? I just can't believe you said that????

Herne - that's why some countries think it's better to de-criminalise or legalise prostitution. It also means the prostitutes can be better protected.

there won't be prostitutes anymore, these "men" who can't control their urge (we know not all of you are like this, but unfortunately there are a huge amount of them here), how they will satisfy their needs? Raping more women?

As with many things prostitution will occur wherever there's a demand for it, and with Doha having a similar demographic to Dubai it's not surprising that I've heard rumours about the prostitutes in Doha; which hotels they can be acquired in, where they come from, what they charge, who pimps them etc, etc.

Fair play to Dubai for doing something about it AND making it public. Do you think Doha will follow their lead?

There is practically one plane landing in Sharjah every few days with all the passengers being female, on transit visa, I think Dubai has a lot of hard work to do. (Could be rumour).

SG...........thats a tough one, depends how you look at it, I suppose the need for one is short, satisfying and urgent. The other is a long term thing with attachments, responsibilities and takes more than just one nerve to understand it.

I think you have pointed out the two main issues, and they aren't just in the UAE. It's good that Dubai is doing something about it, though :-)

I hate to say this but I have a sneaking suspiction that the last phrase in this article "Foreign workers and expatriates make up over 80% of the 4 million inhabitants of the UAE, and men outnumber women by about three-to-one." may have something to do with this problem but hats off to Dubai...........Chinese hey.......they get everywhere these days
