Squeezing the last drop

Mom_me
By Mom_me

I start getting tensed when the toothpaste level depletes to the ‘breathing its last’ stage. My husband loves to toss it in the bin while I love to squeeze it to the last drop. My husband feels I am a cheapskate to do that. I came across this article where Prince Charles pays a huge amount to his butler whose only job is to squeeze every ounce of toothpaste out of the tube. The only difference is that he uses a silver squeezer while me, the humble rolling pin. But my husband does not get convinced that I have some 'ways of the blue blood'. Do some of you have this habit ? Is'nt it a waste or just plain tempting to squeeze.

lol I agree on the not overstuffing..I take mine home in take away cartons from restaurants, then at home, just put the leftovers in a container and use them within the next few days.

My ex always used to finish her plate or the saucepan if there was a bit left. I don't like wasting food but there is no point stuffing it in, all she did was put on weight.

Good question. It was answered in the course of the discussion. Read my first response here and the subsequent ones.

This discussion goes in line with saving the environment as well, it is not at all far away, as we are part of it. The culture of saving and moderation applies to all.

On another note, there are many things in life for free, but when we damage and misuse them, we’ll end up paying to receive them..)

I'm an electricity, water and paper saver big time! I bet many here are even better saver than myself.

In the end what matters is that you're both happy. Just every now and then make him see that there are other right opinions.

By the way, not all reasonable savers come from poor families. They just appreciate what you have.

Happy, he will be horrified to see that some people actually cut open the tube to use the last drop of toothpaste. As a last resort, he will charm me into having his ways. He always is the winner somehow. But ofcourse I will show him this post. Definately.

Everybody I know loves whatever is cooked by 'Mummy' even if it is a goulash. What is it with mother's cooking.

Yes, moms really know how to not let things go to waste and whip up some new recipe out of leftovers..

Mom does that with leftovers of cakes, chocolates and biscuits. She mixes them all in a bowl, with some chocolate paste on top and puts it in the fridge. Then a nice sweet layered flaked dessert is ready!

I just love our "Home Economy Ministers"....our lovely moms...:)))

Happy happy... left over bread... you reminded me that whenever we had leftover bread we would place them in a tupperware container in the fridge and my mother would make a simple pudding out of them and we would have them as afternoon snacks or as snacks at school during school days.

Maybe why I love pudding.

i hate wasting toothpaste, lotion, shampoos...either i cut it open (for the shampoos and lotions), put them upside down to finish all up...im doing the traditional rolling out the toothpaste till it squeezed out to its last paste..:D

I think it is in my upbringing. Hubby does'nt like the idea of me stuffing food so as not to waste in restaurant where they serve a large helping (or sometimes if ordered more). He feels it is better wasted. It took me long time to adjust to this idea.

I was brought up to respect the gifts of life. Whether for free or paid for, the last drop of anything has the most respect.

Toothpaste, water, rice, body cream, bread… you name it. Those leftovers can sustain a whole poor family. What a waste to go to the trash bin unnecessarily.

So, don't feel bad, it's a good habit in the context above.

Smile..:)

The toothpaste I squeeze to the last drop and then cut the tube in half to get whatever is left. As for shampoo bottles I put in water and shake it and use it.

We didn't have much in life when we were growing up so the habit of hating things go to waste stuck with me.
