question regarding marriage laws
hi,
am planning to visit qatar next month. i have read on different web sites (as well as this one), that to marry in qatar, the bride n groom just have to go to sharia court and then register the marriage in the embassy.
my question is: does the girl require her parents/guardians written consent to get married?
and if the guy is already married, does he reuqire his first wife's consent to marry again?
thanks,
dharrkan
from what ive seen happen to people i know - the girl needs her parents/guardian's consent only if she's muslim and if it's her first marriage. If she's been married before and this is her second or third etc then the parents consent is not mandatory.
If the woman is christian - regardless of whether she's marrying a muslim or not - no parental consent is required.
Oh and if the bride and groom are not muslim - a civil marriage certificate is issued as opposed to a sharia one.
ok im out!

are must or forget it no chance.
if she doesnt have any parents her friends can be there with her to fulfill the requirements.

married a Tunisian muslim. He was told that he needed approval from the Sharia Court but as he wasn't Qatari they didn't want to get involved.
I think all he did was advise the Tunisian Embassy that he was getting married in the British Embassy (who having posted the wedding banns took them down and the Consul subsequently refused to marry them). Consul at the time was a pr*tt.
They were eventually married by special licence in the UK.
Best advice is to check with your own embassy. Hope this helps.
this all applies... goodluck
