UK family visa and step child
Hello,
Hope you can help. I am thinking about a potential offer of work in Doha. I am from the UK and have a wife and 9 year old step daughter. I need to know how easy it is to get them visa's as permanent residents.
My step daughter has had no contact with her biological father since the age of 4months and he does not make any maintenace payments, we dont even know where he is. I can get a UK court order to allow her to leave the UK. The question is what is the rules re step-children.
The second question is that we are considering extending the family. If we had another child are there any issues form a visa perspective?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Graeme
Hi Graeme,
I am really interested in how you got on with moving your step daughter to Qatar, as I am in a simular position, I have two sons but my eldest of 7 is from a previous relationship and has a different surname to me.
You are correct on the born outside the UK issue.
Our daughter had twins born in Qatar and if they in turn have children outside the UK, those children are not guaranteed British passports.
The company should sort the visa problem for you. As far as the paperwork in order, dont think you would have any problem.
For extended family ... if your wife deliver the baby in Qatar ... after the baby born, get the birth certificate sorted, apply the passport then apply for the resident permit.
Assuming both of you and the wife both british and born in the UK ... the new born baby shouldn't have a problem to get the british citizenship. I am Indonesian, my husband british but born in Germany. He being told that he cant pass down the citizenship to our son if born outside the UK. He got the exemption because my father in law served RAF during his birth in Germany.
Good luck
