Today, I heard from somebody that the limit of time to work in Qatar is 5 years. After 5 years the government or the labor department I don't know who ask you to leave!!!..Is this an old law??..I just cannot believe it!!..I am surprised to hear that.... how about if the company still need you to work for them? Please, tell me if this is true..Is not that I am planning to spend the rest of my life in Qatar but I guess anybody would like to leave his/her job on their own terms.

Interesting answers....many of my questions have been answered....now...we are just deciding...to stay or go....

Never take someone for granted, you might wake up one day and realize that you have lost a diamond

Guys, there is a difference between the residence permit that you get from immigration and the visa approval which is only issued by the labor department.

you only get an RP when you are using a visa approved by the labor department.

this visa is issued according to gender, nationality and profession.

no matter how many times you transfer companies you 'll still be using the same visa until you reach it's expiry .

this is applicable on all companies not only the ones they operate on short term contracts.

Its kinda familiar to me... It was one of the thread topic here in QL and if im not mistaken, this was just a proposal of some middle east leaders. I think will be enforced in Dubai or Bahrain... but not in Qatar.

What i know is if you have transferred or released several times, i think three times, then that's it. they will no longer give you a visa. So it means, eventhough you worked for five or ten years, it doesn't matter as long as you stayed in the same Company.

I guess what you say is true only for private companies who apply for VISA based on projects/Contacts which last from 2 to 5 yrs.

usually the visa approvals are issued from the labor department for 2 or 5 years , when you reach the this deadline you are asked to get a new visa approval from the labor department.

this new visa can be refused depending on your nationality and profession.

Never heard of such a law. However, there is a law wherein you will be allowed to work upto the age of 60 years (but can be extended for some)

There is no such law.
