Public toilets

Sorry for the "ewww" subject. since this topic is brought up in a local daily newspaper today, I thought I’d see what you guys think.
Doha lacks in accommodating decent public toilets. There is only one toilet in Cornish!(that i dare not to use---ever)
The worst are in shopping malls. Not a single shopping mall accommodates a clean public toilet. I mean Vilaggio is supposed to be an upscale recently opened shopping centre. Yet the toilets are very low in standard, warn-out & not hygienic. Not to mention the cracks on the wall & the aluminum doors!
What really bugs me, is the water every where! I can’t help but wonder what those people do exactly with the water sprays ;)
I mean people who has the urge to pray at the shopping mall (and they don’t have to actually), should have washed before heading there. Instead of turning the place into a swamp

We need to advocate to the Government of Qatar for more toilet facilities in their highways and public sector.

Too many close calls while waiting in those traffic jams. Lucky for me most of the public business have some kind of toilet services or a big ceramic hole in the ground to squat down the best you can. Just aim, fire and forget your pain.....

Well actually, I was in girls scout (yes there is something like this in my school with a different name) and had to relieve myself in jungle (frankly not a good experience) but it does change your basic outlook towards hygiene.

Theres no public toilet that is clean, western or non-western countries, with so many people using it and cleaners who get paid shitty amount of money to clean the(excuse the pun), its practically impossible...my opinion is hover and if you cant carry disposable seat covers...

Thanks Alexa. But you know what 'when you gotta go you gotta go' or you are left 'hovering' outside the toilet. I do hang the handbag on the peg (at airports because my travel bag gets heavy and I cannot put it around neck)but I'll take your good advice from now.

'Hovering', this reminds me of my school days and how we would knock on each door which would be promptly replied by a 'me' and the girls would be sort of hovering inside. No time to settle down. LOL.

Hail the Toilet :)

I am more comfortable with the 'asian squat pan' kind of toilets at airport when I have to wait for long hours. I find them hygenic and since nobody is using them, the floor inside the toilet is generally clean.

as far as not sitting on the toilet seats...you DO realize that crabs use toothpicks to pole vault, right??? Sorry...I'm like you...never sit when you can hover..

This is really a serious problem ....

Serious because no body seems to care about this issue.

Not Long back I had raised the issue in QL.

The whole (Wetness) problem is due to the small ceramic-floor tiles. It is some what strange as almost all the toilets I have ventured into have almost identical floor tiles, from corniche, to Airport to city centre ...all dito.

These type tiles (with curved edges) are old-types now replaced almost in all countries with straight-edge 1 Foot long tiles where there is no place between the tiles to hold the water. The cleaning boy just needs a rubber wiper to wipe away any wet foot print. Its even easier with the Airconditioning as it dries up the little moisture left.

As for people who say there are dirtier toilets in other countries ...would you too want dirty toilets in your country?

In addition to that Service can be extened to have a Kiosk to sell Tissues, Toilet papers, newspapers, cigarates Etc.

So many oportunities

Hey lamea why don't we start toilet cleaning business. But Gov. has to build the network of Public Toilet every where in Doha. Then only we can render our expertise to them :) What do you think about that idea?

By lamea• 21 Jan 2008 14:37

i am willing to pay twice that as long as a clean toilet is guaranteed!

Exactly my sentiments - I go there just for the necessary things and leave after washing my hands.

lamea

Even if they do they should be consederate and dry the seat again.

the toilets are wet because women often spray water and wash the toilet seat before use!

I don't care if you disagree with me

I lived there for a most of my life and I know what I am talking about (see toilets on Marienplatz where drugs and drug abuse is well known and the sh*** on the walls). That is one of the main tourist attractions in Munich it is a proper pi**** hole.

At least if the toilets are flooded here you can wash your feet upon leaving lol.

I disagree with you canary bird. Allover Munich you’ll find the self hygienic toilets installed in tourist attractions sites & pedestrian streets. I’ve been to rural towns in southern Spain (Andalusia) last summer, not once did I came across unclean toilets like the 1’s here. At least there are not flooded ;)

Yes CB, in one city like munich mabye is not the best experience you had but from all my experience i've been in western countries they are better then in some of places in here or my country.

Although you may be right, however, just take Munich Main Railway Station (Hauptbahnhof) for example, supposing you get down from the train and are in a hurry to go to the bathroom (toilet) - well big disapointment at hand - if you don't happen to have the correct change to put in the (donations) box your very bad luck and I do have have a problem with that.

Before we had the Euro all foreigners coming and not having the proper currency were in a big dilema.

Then we have other public toilets in Munich where the facility is not cleaned at all so you will see all kinds of things all over the toilet.

Depends where you go in the West not all toilets are cleaned. Take my word for this.

By genesis• 21 Jan 2008 12:33

What puzzles me, that you'll always find a cleaning guy there. Yet, the toilets are unclean!

In another news, Dubai Municipality is setting up 100 self hygienic air condtioned toilet all over the city.

I wonder how long will it take for the guyz here to imitate that ;)

Qatar should learn from the West for the Hygienic issue. They are the best in my opinion.
