New nursery in Al Waab

A new nursery, Sunny Smiles, has recently opened in Al Zuhoor Complex 2 in Al Waab. We've been sending our 2.5 year daughter there 3 mornings a week. She's been painting, coloring, playing and doing letter and color practice. Prices are reasonable, good facilities that are improving daily (with outdoor shaded play area) and qualified caring teachers. They take ages 2 months to 4 years. Contact them at 447-6674 or 525-9248. This is not an advertisement--just info from one parent to another!

we've been attending apple tree nursery in Aspire area since March 2009. It's not a bad nursery, with lots of attention from the stuff to every child, reasonable facilities, but a very small soft play area and almost nothing in it. Also I wanted my son to go to this nursery to start talking English, as his father is English, and I am Russian, but so far we have no results...

there is only one English teacher in our group (3 y.o.+), and she doesn't come every time either.

When most of the time she is not there, there are only Filipino attendants looking after kids. What kind of English grammar can they teach my son? "yes, sir-r-r!", and "yes, m-a-am!"?

If it wasn't so close to our villa, I would probably give my son to another nursery, like Tot's Corner or Busy Bees.

I took my 2-year-old daughter to Sunny Smiles for a school year (2008-2009). She had a wonderful time.

The nursery's manager is very caring and approachable.

The facilities are good. My daughter learnt a few things: she is able to trace and is very good at recognizing letters and colouring. She told me once: “At my school I am always happy”.

Having taken my eldest daughter to a larger nursery, I felt the difference between the attention paid to children there compared to Sunny Smiles.

I believe that Indian speaks Indian English

a native English speaker is somebody whose first and foremost language is English. A person who is fully conversant in English and uses proper English grammar. I wouldn't say that Indians are 'native English speakers'.

Sorry to disagree, but many educated and qualified teachers from India are "Native-English" speakers since English is an official language in schools and government in India.

My daughter has been going to Sunny Smiles from January and we have been quite pleased. She gets personalized attention from the 3 teachers and one teacher aid (who is not a "Native English" speaker). She doesn't speak broken English since we speak and read to her in Native English (north american) at home--children learn to speak from their primary caregivers more than from someone they see for a few hours a day. I'm an adult educator myself and feel that the quality of "education" that is provided for a 2-3 year olds is quite adequate.

Really, what kind of "curriculum" do they really need at that age besides colors, numbers, letters, shapes and lots of PLAY! Keep them young as long as they can since they will certainly (hopefully) be in school for the next 20 years or more!

I’m sure that you dialed a wrong number. My son is there and his teacher is Canadian and the assistant is Pilipino. And as I know they put advertisements every where for a qualified native English speakers. As I know this is the first year for this school and by the increasing of the kids number everyday they need more native teachers.

Try their mobile number 6919728

Thanks :)

I just called sunny smiles and had so much trouble talking the the girl who answered the phone. I asked her if there were native english speaking teachers and she said there are none, they are all indian and pakistani. Does anyone know any nurseries in the same area that have native english speakers working there, it seems hard to find places that do. Am I just being fussy wanting my son to have a native english speaking teacher? How does everyone else get on? Im concerend that he will come home speaking broken english!!!!!

We are looking for somewhere to take our son (4 months) in a few months if my wife has to go back to work. She has visited a few, not many with the combination of good english speaking staff, low staff:kid ratio, shaded outside area and close to Al-Waab.

Phone numbers would be great if you post a name :-)

The price seems reasonable to me. We pay 600 QAR for 3 days a week/ each month. They are open 6am-2pm (I think) from Sept-June. There is a mix of children from various cultural and religious backgrounds.
