camel racing and city tours
I have a couple of visitors arriving next week. They want to see
(1) a camel race, and
(2) they want to look around Doha shops and cafes for the things that are interesting and uniquely Qatar / Gulf.
Can anyone advice on either matter? Perhaps there is a company or someone with extensive local experience who organise such city tours?
Please phone or SMS 5532509...or of course respond here. Thanks for all assistance.
I don't know why this is so hard for anyone to do:
I spent on several occasions hours looking for information on specific times and schedules for the camel races. Nothing is posted online by any organization - fine - but also anyone who does go and successfully catch the races don't report back as to when this all was... very strange.
Anyways... I went! And I caught them, and I also asked a local as to when this all transpired, regularly:
FRIDAYS and SATURDAYS
AL-SHEEHANIYA (go towards Dukhan, it's on the way, you'll see a signboard that says "Camel Race")
1pm-3pm (Definitely starts at 1pm, but may end later)
I have only gone Fridays, so I can't vouch for Saturdays.
Enjoy. For goodness sake.
Best
Isabelle
Ps. Big race coming up next week I think.
to serdal, i know this is a late reply but if u still want to explore Doha more, u should try inquiring from these companies:
Qatar International Tours - 4667782 / 4671752
Alpha Tours (Regency Tours)
Gulf Adventures Tourism - 5881760 / 5802977
i read this from MARHABA latest issue. for camel races, you can visit Al Sheehaniya at any time, and local tour companies arrange trips when races are scheduled. Call 4872028 for race details.
If you find out anything about camel races let me know...
As for shopping the villagio is pretty cool...but if you want rustic only in the middle east type stuff you'll hve to go to the Souq on saturday, very cool.
Good luck
