Best Way to Get Excess Luggage to Doha

We are planning on being in Doha for a few years and were wondering what is the best way to get our excess luggage there-.

We are going to be having a stop over on the way and then will continue onto Doha after three days - this way we will be hit with two lots of airlines charging us for excess luggage.

The other option is to use a moving company - thinking of Crown as they are located here in Australia and Doha.

Any suggestions on which is the best way to go.

Thanks

We didn't approach the airline direct and had no control over the "flights" that were used.

The agent that we used on both occasions was (I don't know the name) coming from RAA to town. Just before the round-about with the row of shops on the right that are (or at least were) predominantly travel agents...BA, KLM etc.

The yard for the agency was down a short slope just before the turn into the travel agencies.

The second lot of freight actually travelled on the same flight as we did to the UK and we were halfway from Manchester to Doncaster when they rang to say it had arrived.

We were told that we didn't actually need to have purchased an air ticket from the airline that we used.

Obviously the airline won't be interested in offering you the service as they would prefer to sell you the more expensive option.

Hope this helps.

Regards

I think Crown will be the way to go - 6 weeks is no problem as it will just be winter stuff.

Dweller...

Can you please tell me how you organised unaccompanied baggage from  Qatar? and what arline you used?

I have always sent stuff this way, until I came here and both emirates and qatar airways act like they don't know what I'm talking about!!!

I gave up after being given the run around over the phone, I almost thought I had made up the phrase "unaccompanied baggage" it was so foreign to them.

Any info appreciated...:)

is probably correct. We have used unaccompanied baggage flying out of Qatar and it was very economical.

If you have a lot of items that would require freighting, than it would obviously be easier and more cost effective to send it by sea. We did that when we first moved to Qatar and it was like Christmas when it arrived.

check with the arline your travelling with and ask them for a quote on either unaccompanied luggauge or air frieght. Crown will send it by sea so it can take up to 6 weeks by the time it clears customs.

Depends on how much extra you are talking about and what ailine your travelling. If its only about 10kg extra get to check in as early as possible if travelling with kids as most will over look it (by early as possible try to be the first ones to check in) we came back from Oz with about 15kgs over after chrissy and didn't pay a cent for it. the only thing was one of our bags went missing from our connecting flight but turned up the next day. put this down to the connecting flight and being over weight that they just put it on the same flight the next day.
