I mean WTF??? 3 hours wait for a taxi??

QT
By QT

I just called Karwa cars (1.30pm)

and was told they didn't have anyone free until 4.30!   Frown

It's not even a Thursday!!!   Yell

I mean, how are you supposed to get around?

I left my car at Ramada last night and need to pick it up?

Are there any other ways of getting from Mansoura to Ramada?

(I don't know, I'm new here!)

OK...   Thanks for listening (reading).  I've finished with my moaning rant.   Sealed

But seriously, how can I get to the Ramada (without walking!)   Undecided

When we were quite new here Al Waab Road is not quite finish yet, but whenever we go out, if we can't get a taxi we start walking outside and some cars will offer to give us a lift and it depends wherever you want to go, they will tell you how much they want to charge you. nothing to worry! it's normal here, for a woman as long as you have company I don't think there would be a problem.

It's great 2 b loved!

loz, you need to have cell numbers of karwa rental scheme drivers as well as private cabs and limos

I'v waited many many long hours in the sun

If you need some, pm me.

lol QT, been to England recently :P Obviously it's not the case during the week most of the time, but on some days I have to wait 3+ hours for a taxi.

I remember having like 8 taxi companies on save and they all being busy.

give you their mobile number to contact privately. all you have to do is give some extra tips than the meter charges.

i bet this is happening a lot here. why wouldnt karwa increase their fleet if there was so much demand.

I just called Karwa again!  They now say I have to wait 6 hours for a taxi!

I should have been grateful yesterday when they told me only 3 hours!

Oh well!   I think I'll ring one of the private hire companies you guys gave me yesterday!

That doesn't sound like a pleaseant experience at all.  I'm sorry your first days here have not been the best.  It will get better, I promise you.  I remember the first week I was here.  I came without my family and a combination of the exhaustion from getting used to the time change and the stress of having to set up house by myself in a new land was overwhelming.  There were a few times where I felt ready to snap.  But it got better for me and it will get better for you too.  Don't lose that excitement you had when you were planning your move and still had when you first arrived.  If you need anything, let me know.

do you mind sharing the limo service info with me?  that would be ever so helpful!  i had an issue yesterday with the Karwa situation.  well it was actually linked to the lovely grand regency.  only in for a visit so need to get stuff done. hubby's at work and don't have license yet of course. hey QT, sorry about that for you.  i learned a valuable lesson yesterday. do karwa's exsist for me???  i was actually told this is not my country so get used to the change. whatever,  glad you have a ride!

We use a very reliable driver for bringing our teenagers around Doha when we are not able to.  If you are going to the coffee social tonight I can give you his number.  He ihas never let us down and very trustworthy.  He also does not charge a ton of money for the service although it is more than the taxis.

best way to get a lift is get out of your house and proceed to main roads, there you can find plenty of empty taxis looking for passengers.

Lazydude... go to teyseer salwa road. its great to experience... your 40 riyals is worth to spend in their complete services, inside-out! good luck!

QT, next time plan your trip so you won't get problematic. the main reason why i hate doha bcoz of transportation (karwa). their all not reliable. can't trust kolorum vehicles too... so its a necessity now for everybody to take their own car/vehicle. just a suggestion...

As I had to get my car serviced and all the peope I called were  busy on that day and I live off the beaten track I ordered a limosine from Karwa 5488888 is the number I used the 5448888 before.

The cost per hour QR 30,-- plus the Km QR 1. If you order them and let them know exactly where you live they will pick you up on time.

It is not cheap but in any case better than wandering around in the heat looking for a taxi that may not stop.

qt, this is normal. been there, done that. this is karwa...they have the same problem since forever.

better check out some private taxis and some private transport "companies" who do that. reliable and not really that expensive. mostly it is 30QR.

good luck!
