My friend gone through the same procedure, he came here in business visa and took temporary license for 1 month, then he changed to RP. but when we took the original license they took UAE license. the only way left is join Driving School as a fresh and took Qatar license.

Better u apply for a temporary licence. For this no need to surrender the original licence, but to pay 150 QR and medical eye test. After getting your RP,U can apply for permanent driving licence by showing your temporary licence. If you do so, u can keep the UAE driving licence with you. only a metter of additional 150 QR for temporary licence. i surrendered my UAE licence to get the Qatar licence. No one there to advise me this way.

Because my friend has surrenderd it, if you are in visit visa and looking for a temp driving license no need.

but when you go for a permanent one you have to

there is no need for you to surrender your dubai licence.

Simple, just go to the traffic office ( i reckon near Madinat Khalifa)there are a ot of small offices in the premises, you will find Sudanese men offering to do Arabic typing for you. they could charge you between 10- 50 QR to do the whole thing while you wait.

You will need

1) copy of your Dubai licence and original

2) copy of your Qatar ID and original

3) Copy of your visa - just as aprecaution

4) Aletter from your sponsor( sic! I know)stating he/she doesnt have any problems in you getting a driving licence

5) 200 QR towards the fee.

6) 2/3 photographs

You will have to get an eye test done, there is a facility within the traffic department - the sudani man will help you out will all of this.

Trust this helps.

If you want to convert UAE driving License to Qatar driving license you have to surrender.

But if you will take a new driving license giving the driving test no need to surrender it.
