Hi I'm a 24 yr old teacher from Ireland and was recently offered a position teaching English in Qatar. Unfortunatley I know nothing about Qatar or it's inhabitants. I would greatly appreciate any advice or information people may have? Can anybody recommend Qatar as place to live/work? I look foward to hearing from you.

Yes it's true, ask first Accommodation from them and also transportation Allowance..It is so nice to live and work in Qatar..huhuhu, i left Qatar for a new job in Oman, Oman is very great, sceneric but I really missed Qatar. My heart belongs to Qatar...I am a Filipina by the way. I can differentiate it wiht Dubai and Oman. Dubai is great place for travellers but for work it's not

really good for workers due to traffic. Oman is cool too

but I LOVE YOU QATAR...hOPE I Can still be back. I am under ban at the moment since I resigned from my Old Company and they dont give me released. By the way, globeglider, what school gave you a job offer? can u give me the email add? i'm going to let my husband apply to that school and i am hopeful he can take me back to Qatar thru Husband's Sponsorship.

Cheers!!!! Congrats to your new job.

Hi Globeglider,

life here is ok. Though you have to specify your likes and dis-likes. I understand your young and probably looking for opportunities that's why you're considering this job.

Qatar, is a small country in the Middle East.Majority of inhabitants are Muslims. It's a very rich country and aggresively developing into a economic powerhouse. Construction of infrastructures are everywhere. Most of the working people here are expatriates like me.Majority of which are from India,Pakistan, Philippines, Jordan, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Egypt etc. I think every country is represented here.:)

The drawback is super high house rentals, i suggest you include in your package the accomodation. It has the highest inflation rate in the region at almost 15% last fiscal year.Food and basic commodities skyrocketed, some were even 100 percent increase. You're also from a cold weathered country, here, it's in the 40's (degree celcius) during the summer (Mar-Oct) and single digits on the winter months.

I suggest you try Google and do more research in Lonely Planet website.

I hope this helps..if you want more details, just ask specific questions and I will try to help.

God Bless!

Hello,

Congratulations for the offer you got in Qatar as Teaching Professional.

First thing you make sure that you get accommodation from the company which you work for.

If this is solved then its like being in Heaven in Qatar.

Awaiting to see you with smile.

Cheers,

Sameer
