A 34-year-old Filipina was left paralysed following a car accident in the dunes close to the Sealine resort.
Legal sources say the Qatari driver – a friend of the injured woman – had been showing off his “driving skills” when the car flipped.
Both the driver and another Filipina passenger escaped unhurt. However, medical specialists have put the extent of damage caused to the paralysed woman at 435%.
This would mean that she is entitled to QR652,000 in compensation should the Qatari be convicted of causing injury through reckless driving.
The court postponed the case until June 22 after the lawyer acting for the driver asked for the extent of the woman’s injuries to be reassessed at Hamad Hospital in order to “reduce the percentage” and therefore the payout.
Sources told Gulf Times that insurance companies do not cover off-road driving and so the Qatari, in his mid-30s, would have to pay the compensation out of his own pocket.
The tragic accident happened on May 4 last year. The paralysed Filipina, who had been sitting in the front passenger seat when the car overturned, was in court to be told of the postponement. She was accompanied by her mother.

I feel sorry for this lady ... It's been more then 1 yr now, poor lady still waiting for the final decision ??
They need suspension bars inside of the car to stop the roof caving in and they should use helmets too. However, the thrill bargaining with death seems to be the motto. lol
I went twice to Dunes and after that i never went again due to lack of facilities and high risk of accident !
I myself was about to had a head collition in the dunes with other quadbike.... when i reached on the top of the dune this guy was coming from the otherside and we both reached on the edge at the same time, luckly we both escaped ;-)
The Govt. should look into this and provide some kind of safetly for the citizen and trouist !

Just to tell a Tale - we had a staff member who went out on one of those bikes, not even a land cruiser - against his better judgement, he almost died, two broken ribs, cracked head torn ligamints etc. etc. Do you think the thrill is worth to loose your life - hmm I don't. His relative died 6 months earlier from the same accident. It is not worth it just for the thrill what so you say???
435% damaged? Good that she still alive!
I thought that we only have up to 100%...

intentionally, it was an accident in which he could have been a victim but luclky he escaped !
Being friends, how can you sue your friend if he is not at fault !!

HMC is full of young Qataris and Non Qataris and every weekend they bring several injured from different Dunes across Qatar.
Govt. should do something before it's too late !

Did he force her to go with him???? She decided her own fate and it is just bad luck.
What you sow you reap.
Bad luck for her, and no sympathy just don't go with reckless drivers as this is happeneing every day, Hamad it full of Qatari RTA patients who can't walk, talk live their lives, why risk your life with people who don't know how to drive period.
And " Justice delayed is Justice denied "
I do not understand what is meant by ' However, medical specialists have put the extent of damage caused to the paralysed woman at 435%."
