just a small tip janey: you can never have enough RAM! A program is loaded into the RAM to be executed. If there is not enough RAM then the hard disk is used as a "virtual memory" or "swap drive", but, it is a thousand times slower than RAM. Secondly, the average "seek time" or "access time" of a hard disk is important. These specs are available from the manufacturers. The other thing to consider is the L2 cache of the processor itself. That is an even faster memory than RAM attached on the CPU chip itself. 2 MB would be a good value. And finally you have to "slim down" Windows and get rid of all unnecessary and useless gadgets. The problem in Qatar is, that all shops have the same stuff at a time, because their distributor is in Dubai. The only way to get good parts into Doha is buying via Internet or have somebody bring the stuff while he is in America or Europe.

... and if you upgrade your motherboard you might need to purchase new RAM (Random Access Memory), because now they have DDR2 and DDR3, and clock speeds of 1600 MHz! As thexonic said, everything you have is useless or rather worthless. If you know what you want to do with your computer you can build one to your specs. A good bare bone system will be 10.000 QR. If you go for SLI (multiple video cards) you must think of up to 20.000 QR.

The most demanding applications are games. To give you an idea, a good viedo card is at least US $ 400,-. Processors come with different L-Cache (Memory embedded on the chip). A really good processor runs at 1600 MHz, has 16 MB !! L-Cache and is Quad-core. Of course, the motherboard has to support a Front Side Bus Clock of 1600 MHz, too. And the memory should run at the same frequency, otherwise it will slow down the whole system accordingly. Hard disks now come with 10.000 rpm and more. And all this requires a sophisticated cooling system (liquid). I put a computer together which has all the features mentioned. It costs just QR 29.000.-

Ur old graphic card and ur 80 gb hard disk are useless, no one will buy a 128 mb vga. U need to up grade ur hard drive too, to 250 gigs. Everything that u mentioned that needs to be upgraded, will cost you around 2000 riyals. By the way u need to upgrade ur mother board too, not just the processor.

you can post your asking price in the classified ads, and just a reminder post all the details a potential buyer wants to know in your computer and be reasonable with the price,

here in qatar most computer/parts depreciate so fast as month by month new latest cmoputer/parts

Since here not many choice we can make, not many brand we can find and not many store we can consult. I think better bring your CPU to Sofitel or any computer store and ask them possibility to upgrade it or trade it. Quit sure they will said better buy NEW!

Simple way best solution 

thereare 2 types of format for Drives

--> FAT32

--> NTFS

this will explain the difference

http://www.ntfs.com/ntfs_vs_fat.htm

if your hardisk is SATA then you need to install a few drivers before installing windows operating system..

call this guy 5351179.. smart computer center he might help u out with the laptop Problem.

As for the first Question .. who started the topic ..

man assembling is not a bad option but then nowadays branded are much cheaper than before.. go for a dell core 2 duo 2.6 or higher, 2 GB RAM DDR2, 512MB Nvdia PCI. they come in good option and easy for upgrade in future which will be very often and it will cost you the same ..you will just skip the hassle for buying all parts and while playing the computer does get HOT so u need a good cooling .. For Gamimg "asus" is not a bad option..

calling all tech wizzards... let me have some hints also...

i have laptop without OS. so i bought a new package of Microsoft Operating System. while installation it shows,

"make sure that the HDD powered is ON or properly connected to your computer or any disk related configuration is correct."

i am blocked to install operating system in its HDD. what the hell it is?

my HDD is not yet even formatted since i bought. if i attempt to format it for a partition, shows: " FAT32 IS NOT YET SUPPORTED"

I would recommend you go with a branded PC like Dell or HP with gaming specifecations, because of compatibility issues you may face while building a none branded PC with such high performance parts.

for you Abuamerican, over clocking is not possible with all the motherboards models

what is the PC brand you have and the model of the mother board?

Regards to all
