Supply chain activities: DHL sort facility, process time and clearance are TOO SLOW. Customer Service and call centers are good thought (they respond to you in a timely manner). But this is not helping, if the core service is NOT fast enough. The expectation to get your shipment within 2-3 days. But when you get them after 7 days. This is TOO MUCH. This is happened to me twice on Jul 2022. Always, there is different excuse. Why I have to pay double price of the local post office, when they are inefficient and ineffective
DHL read my posting on Qatar Living about my experience being charged Legalization Fees unfairly. DHL has new customer service people in Doha, I think they are Sri Lankans, and they are very polite and pleasant. Hussam Eldin wrote on this site but was away for awhile on business and when he returned he responded to my email.
In short he offered a full refund of the Legalization fees PLUS a refund of the duty I was charged as a way of apology from DHL. He said to contact him immediatly if there was any problem in the future and it will be solved. My husband and I drove to the DHL desk in Villagio and were given the cash and the person there was very polite and apologetic. My son received a DHL airplane model worth a couple of hundred Riyal as a bonus! We were all thrilled.
My conclusion is DHL has new customer oriented people in Qatar and is anxious to become the best courier in the region. I am very pleased with DHL response and have returned to using them for my shipments.
Thank you DHL and thank you Mr. Eldin for being understanding and fixing a problem caused by customs in the first place. Quite honestly he is one of the nicest customer service persons I have ever spoken to.

It is DHL in Qatar! In other countries they behave differently. Aramex in Doha is fast, cheaper than DHL, and mostly they deliver faster than scheduled. (My experience).
DHL is the worst. The laziest people work there. Every time I get something worth 2000 Riyals or more they include "Legalisation Fees" of 350 Riyals. FED EX rarely has these charges; or else they negotiate with customs to have them removed.
The law says that items for personal use get charged 5% duty if they are worth more than 2000 Riyals. If it is for a company, the company has to pay legalization fees in addition.
I am not a company, I am a stay at home mother.
The parcels are addressed to me, at a villa and the invoices state it is for personal use. Why customs assesses legalisation fees? That's another can of worms... back to DHL.
Regardless of what the item is DHL includes legalization fees. Calling them you get a huge song and dance. For example, I got a computer from the USA. The guy at DHL said: (1) It didn't say personal on the package (it said PC which means personal computer), (2) You got charged legalisation fee because it was worth more than 2000 Riyals (this is not the law!), (3)the invoice did not say it was for personal use (yes it did, he didn't even care to look), (4) we won't help you, you come down to the airport yourself and spend the day chasing around customs (now that is finally honest, they don't care and they admit it, but only after saying several stupid things do they finally say the truth).
On a similar parcel from FED EX this is what I was told: (1) don't worry we will speak with customs and have the fee removed. And they were removed in less than hour!
In short DHL is horrible unless your shipment is under 2000 Riyals.
I have also had 2 occasions in the last 4 months where the driver was supposed to deliver the parcel but decided to get lost and not show up. Fed Ex drivers call if they are lost.
I am finally changing forwarding companies in the US so that I do not have to use these DHL b*ms again. There is no customer service at all.
Summary: customs assesses legalisation fees, Fed Ex works on your behalf to have them removed (you save minimum of 350 Riyals), DHL tells you to go away and pay. I do not know what Aramex does, it would be good to hear from someone about Aramex.

That's the great thing about Shop and Ship at Aramex. You subscribe to their service and they give you a UK and US mailbox address. For me, I order things online from the UK, or when my family want to send things, they only pay to ship to UK address. Then, when it arrives at the mailbox in Slough, they forward it to your Doha mailbox and text you when it has arrived. Then you go and collect it and pay the charges. A small package, like a book for example, is about 30QR. It is very useful for companies that don't offer international shipping. I have ordered something online, the next day it arrived at UK mailbox, 24 hours later it was here!
Just to send documents yesterday I paid 30 Riyals less by Aramex than DHL there is considerable differences in prices starting a QR 90 to QR 180 for the same doocuments. Parcels I don't know

I like Aramex but there is no difference in price. Shop and Ship amazing though. Remember if you are a QP employee, you get a discount at DHL!

Aramex is unreliable (at least from the US). Take your pick on shipping to/from Qatar, it's all a crap shoot.
