Don't go for a really cheap and nasty guitar as often they will make you sound terrible and not stay in tune. This in turn sounds terrible and may put you off permenantly!
Try and borrow someones until you realise if you like it or not. If you enjoy it and are ok, then spend a bit of cash and invest in a decent guitar.
Yamaha are okish for a cheapy at Virgin or at their shop next to Al Jarir store on Salwa Road.
The main thing is to enjoy playing and not get stuck with a teacher doing nothing but teaching you scales.
Once you get bored try a few Deep Purple power chords, a bit of simple Smoke on the Water will put a smile back on your face.
