Family Day in villagio
By roadtripper •
Last weekend i went to villagio just for buying some groceries, upon reaching the entrance there i saw a security guard confronting a group of pakistanis by not allowing them inside because he said it is a family day i thought of backing out because if it is a family day for sure i will not be allowed also inside the mall. but trying my luck i just pass by that security guard without giving an eye to me allowed me access to the said mall. i felt pitty on those guys what is the difference between me and those asians?
Is there really a LAW ABOUT FAMILY ONLY DAY ON ALL MALLS AND SOUQ AREA SPECIALLY WEEKEND???????
WHATS HAPPENING HERE!!!
I love racing around what so bad about that,,
terrible!
Watch this video about racism of Villagio Mall caught on camera on Family Day

I almost killed some labourers today.
I was driving to my flat and into my parking space and three were asleep there...just on the ground..
its filthy dusty - these guys must be so desperate...
its a dreadful situation
Mufy quote: "would you like lot of shabbily dressed people coming to your mall or outlet?
Its interesting a highly qualified manager(my hubby knows) in IT, dressed really well with lots of money to spend was knocked back from City Centre on "family Day", and i guess it was only because he was Indian. Asumptions Assumptions, i dont care how people try to justify this, its disgraceful. I happened to see this in action last weekend at CC, and the look on the guys face when he was refused entry was heart breaking..Disgusting..
Racism/ Descrimination - this are the words from which we can address the current issues in baring expats in most of the malls. I feel that there should be a clearer explanation of what they called Family Day! Lets be fair enough to anyone!
I would suggest to every body this points.
1. To Families- can we give the bachelors a chance to be in the malls on fridays? Reason: Most of the expats are off on fridays and this is the only time to have a liesure time after a week long work. They may come from as far as 100 kilometers just to come in Doha for purchasing personal things and needs.
2. To families- Can you adjust your Family Day on Saturdays where in most of the family status residents are also off during these days. It would also be better since most of the expats are on the Job sites and not opting to shop on this days.
3. To Bachelors- Please do make yourself presentable in going in malls, please read comment below:

one of the security in city center said that the main reason why they don't let all this kind of people in is to avoid the bad smell and being dirty.even securities feel pity about this people but that's the order of their management, so they cannot do anything about this.... so bad.
- make sure to clean yourself and see to it you look pleasant before going to these places this is not a construction site, be considerate to other people.
4. To Mall Management- please make some dialouge with the local councils for these events "Family Day" please consider expats needs, they are also playing an important role in the development of the country. Suggest dress codes if necessary, these might help them to be aware that they should be presentable.
these are only my suggestion, we cannot please anyone. Racism / descrimination might be avoided if we can be considerate to others feelings.
what did oprah told tommy?and how?am sorry but i didnt know
"Life is too short to make it shorter"
How about Mufy's comments? He showed the difference between personal racism and protecting commercial interests. This is the point I was trying to convey before.
It's bad that singles are restricted even just for having some time-out on weekends. Do they think it's good for families and children to spend all summer weekends in shopping malls?
Think2
would you like lot of shabbily dressed people coming to your mall or outlet?
wont u be scared that your actual shoppers,MAY BE, mostly families wouldnt be happy with lot of bachelors around?
how many are actual buyers in a shopping mall crowd?
i am an asian too, but the above factors cant be ignored for the growth of a brand or business. so business racism or whatever u call it, it has to be implemented at some places so that their business goes well. hope you know what tommy hilfiger told to oprah winfrey n how she asked him to get out of her studio.
we wont have any hatred against some races personally, but wwhen it comes to business, racism is practised widely. many pubs here too do it. do u think its only couples that enter in the "couples only nights" ?
its their business. so they adopt these 'techniks'

I dont have a problem with the labourers staring at me, they can do that as much as they wish till next year, it doesn't bother me at all, i just act and walk normal while they're staring. But what made me feel uncomfort is the verbal nastiness/harassment of some folks. And its not coming from these poor labourers, i swear!

It's not just the labourers who stare but the Qatari "shabab" crowd...the crowd that drove me out of Qatar. The whole lot of them cause women to be uncomfortable. Is "Family Day" collective punishment for a few bad apples? It seems so.
i need abayaa for rent 2-3 hours. :)
i was not referring to Asians in particular. There are even Qataris that can only afford to shop at ramez or safeer.
I have decided to visit Villagio next weekend... Does anyone know where I can "rent a small family" for a few hours ?
Potty trained children only please!

Recently back home in the UK I was questioned by a local about what I do blah blah. I explained how “family day” exists in a lovely, luxury, wonderful country called Qatar and the guy was speechless. I even explained how expats get so used to this lifestyle (only the egoist,
arrogant ones of course) that they don’t even question it. The guy was dumbfounded and so were dozens of others who I spoke to.
It’s laughable, funny, let’s make as much fun as possible as you expats in Doha don’t have to experience the racism so what should you care right?
The sort of language that is used such as “horrid people” “them” “Asians” etc shows that you’re a victim of such a society that breeds racism and hate.
In the west we get hounded by hateful and racist remarks that we are racist against Arabs which I have always disapproved of but in the Gulf (and this is not including real Arab countries where real Arab culture exists) we have not only Arab’s being racist but Westerners being so used the ill treatment of the sub-continent that it is normal to them.
The solution would be to build shopping centers that appeal to them (i.e: LULU, LAMSY, SAFEER & RAMEZ).
Who is “to them”? why not say "ASIANS" who are treated like dirt????? are they not good enough to shop where you do? Of course you’re probably living off oil money – with a comment like this you sound Qatari...Yes? Have you ever thought twice about the damn people building this twisted, irrational, racist, country?
You have no idea how many messages I get from people on this forum who are so happy that someone has a voice for these victims! Believe it or not!
Why not have a 'family' day at work as well. Qatari's and Europeans to work from Sunday through Tuesday Midday, then the rest of the people to work from Tuesday afternoon to Thursday. Then nobody will have a problem being told to stay home on Friday, as they will have Saturday all for themselves!!! Fair?

Now you see the difference betweem professional and laborers....even your wearing armani's or ferragamo's
your personality is still branded as a uneducated laborers..... Try to study again.... take a course....
medecine,,, engineering or commerce.. pass the exams... get a professional lisence...
take ur diploma and transcripts.... find job... experience as well... then apply for a professional pataka..... the tax for your working visa is cheap beacuse your just a laborer....
I will not amused if you did not understand me.
SAD BUT TRUE...
Heres a tip - carry a Louis Vuitton bag! That will get u in! Failing that go before 10 and hide in the toilets! Sooo much fun! Hic! Marigolds time....or was that gin! Dunno, where am I?
It's not just the attire that counts, but the looks also... if they think you look too dark or your skin is not pampered... then for sure the answer would be NO!!

Is Economy that space at the back of the plane? I wrote to QA only last week to ask them to remove ECO and replace it with shag pile carpets for we TOP people in Biz and First to store our Vuitton Luggage. After all, my last Vallise from Vuitton cost a damn site more than an Eco ticket so it deserves a special place yah! Hic! Gin time !
I don't think so.... haven't flown to US in First.. only Amsterdam... not that lucky... but i still enjoy the drinks in economy... LOL...
Never say Never for fear of Forever!!

Never say Never for fear of Forever!!
OMG thats what all the Chavs and slags in UK wear - all fake of course. Louis would turn in his grave if his exquisite ' must haves ' were ever copied. Perish the thought! I am off to the gin shop this morning at about 11 so get there at 10 okay! Hic!
I'm more of a Burberry person myself... but to all their own.... btw... save some gin for the rest of us... :) LOL
Never say Never for fear of Forever!!
Instaed of harassing the Malls get your friends to go to the Ritz Carlton - its fabulous! Hic............gin time! Yippeeeee
This Malls, didn't think that they are losing alot of money since bachelors are the onces whose buying from them. This is RACISM!!! Bachelors will think of a way to enter the malls, especially they came from far away and ride a bus, waited for 1hr just to find out that they cannot come inside.
Those who are in favor of declaring FRIDAY a FAMILY and WESTERN ONLY DAY Raeised your FEET!!!!!
LOOSERS!@#
well i'm sure there is lots of customers in this mall are complaining, why allowed the labourers inside?
it is very sad..i know the feeling..can see from their face..but most of them making people inside uncomfortable too specially the woman..they looking at me like im naked..or following where ever i go..or take a snap shot with their cameraphone..
Koko ( named after a clown? ) LV is a Fashion statement. It is a status symbol. It is held in awe by the wealthy. I never fly without it - even my toilet seat is fashioned by Louis himself yah! LV LV LV LV Yippeeeeeeee! If he did Gin I would buy it yah! HiC!
:) Just keep drinking, and I for sure don't think everyone can have a Louis Vuitton Luggage. :) I for one hate Louis Vuitton, so i would be one person who wouldn't have it LOL :)
Never say Never for fear of Forever!!
Are u a Communist? Next you will suggest that everyone can have Louis Vuitton luggage! They cannot! Hic! Back to the gin! Yippeeeeeee
It's an unjust system here! Laborers have the right, especially on the only day off they have, to go to a mall for the smallest and simplest pleasure attainable here in doha, just like the rest of us! We are limited to activities here, so just let everyone enjoy what is available!
Never say Never for fear of Forever!!
The solution would be to build shopping centers that appeal to them (i.e: LULU, LAMSY, SAFEER & RAMEZ).
Bonjour Renee....Mais vous takes life far too seriously! If u feel so strongly about the subject how about doing something about it? Chain yourself to the Louis Vuitton shop for example - preferabely not too near the entrance. You see I am off on my hols this weekend and Louis has just introduced a new ' must have ' range of luggage and I simply must pop over and pick up a set yah Prada is opening too soon - I cant wait! Yippeeeeeee! Sieg Heil! Today Doha - Tomorrow Die Weldt! Hic! Gin Time
just one of their rotten law called imbecility.I agree with KOBE anyway..LOL!
--------------------------
CARPE DIEM BABY!
So the solution is to ban them from everywhere in Doha as everywhere you go they stare. Whether your in your car, hospitals, walking the street, going into your apartment where you see tons of them sitting on fences just starring there is no escaping it.
Don't these places have a right to "protect" themselves as well?
This topic has been aruged through in many other threads. I think Family Only Days is a necessary evil in Doha. I don't mean to start a big wave but people (read: single men) act differently in Doha. In other cities I've lived in, I've never seen the great number of young men just standing around in malls and starring. It is partially the companies fault (they don't provide any reasonable leisure-time facilities) and partially the cultures fault (separating men and women systematically). The single men (from the sub-contentient or wherever) may not be to blame but the malls have to protect themselves.
“Horrid people” – that’s a nice thing to call people. I guess you’re not one of these poor sods so lucky you will never get to experience the discrimination they get on a daily basis.
The problem is sad but true; the only place the “privileged” in Doha want to see these “horrid people” is at building sites working. Why not just lock them up the rest of the time so no one has to associate with them. They’re very own concentration camp in Doha – lucky them.
The sign is a great idea, but you see in Qatar they like to hide the fact that discrimination exists. Who cares about discrimination right when we have Louis Vuitton?? Feed them to the sharks!!!!
Oh and recreational facilities- yeah right like that is going to happen - they only just build this country after all, like they have a right to anything.
Well said! I agree totally. People should keep their children on leashes at all times. Bring back flogging I say!
Hic.......................gin time!

I have a 7 year old daughter who was grabed twice by one those so called bachelors, once at hayatt palaza and once at the mall, so i'm fine with that law. I know i'm generalizing here but life is not fair.
Why don't you tie up that 7 year old wild beast to a leach?
That way, you will know, where in the hell, she is at your arm reach, at all times.
Since you are the parents. It is your failure that you let loose your child in public places, like she was playing in a sand box.
Look at your self first A#$hole, before judging others.
"Don't make me write your name on my TURD List!"
Imagine yourself as Manager of Louis Vuitton - do u want hordes of horrid people gawping at items they cannot possibly afford. I agree with you that signs should be put up only allowing Qataris and Westerners but I also feel that this should also apply to the issuing of driving licenses yah! Hic! Gin Time.........Yippeeeee!
This is about racism and not letting certain nationalities in the malls on “family day”.
Why do they not have signs saying “only westerner’s and Qatari bachelor’s allowed in the mall. People of other race are not to enter.”
The point is it is unfair and discriminating – if you want to keep bachelors out fine, but to pick and choose selected races – how is that in any way normal?
How can anyone think this is normal behaviour and acceptable? If you do, then you have been living in Qatar for too long.
Do the hotels in Qatar allow hordes of bachaelors into their lobbies at weekends? NO. Why then should Malls which are places for shopping and not simply to ' hang out ' It is the responsibility of EMPLOYERS to provide recreational facilities for their staff. This responsibility is not limited to packing people into a big yellow bus and dumping them in the city okay!
This country breeds racism and for the people who say otherwise just look around you. Unfortunately people get used to living in a country where people are kicked out of malls because of the colour of their skin that it becomes the norm.
Flirting only exist in extremities because of this abnormal society where it is considered “evil” to so much look at a woman. Of course you will get flirting – it’s normal human behaviour.
First its “family day only” – what will come next?
PEOPLE THINK PLEASE ,why should they do family day in mall's especially ..!!
because on friday especially comes the biggest amount of men ,and it's known that they can't stop flirting
and i think the "FAMILY DAY THING " is a good step , and they must keep Going on it
Thers's nothing to do with racism , if u just thinked in a better way , more clear in a "POSITIVE" way.
And all this for your sake and our's
sorry for the bad english lol ,im not pretty good at english
Thanks.
maybe your right i can't teach experience ..!!
But what is importent, that some1 has get what im trying to say
thanks anywayz =D
You can't teach experience
I think it is better to also allowed those professionals
to get in. Not only family and couples, because they also have money and decent job here in qatar.
Family Day is absolutely " Racism"
Family Day is absolutely " Racism"

"crazy world"
Pl. go to any of the Malls or Souq near Al Fradan on next Friday and Make your Stunt. You will get ample chances at any given time.
Talking is very easy;)
Racism and discrimination from them is legal to them, but if we do it, it's illegal. That's why people end up loosing something when they try to be racist to me ;).
--------
"War is not the answer"
--------
I think this is absolutely disgusting as well.. it is pure racism.
I don't know why they call this a democratic country if they pull stunts like this. If I see someone denied access to a mall I'm going to make the biggest scene.
They should declare a Friday Bachelors day. Discrimination in any form should be unacceptable, normally. Suffice to say that Qatar is not considered normal by traditional definition. It is sad to see people that are "invited" into the country treated with such disrespect.
thats the same thing happen to me and couple of friends..we reach there and we saw lots of families going in and some others without family...so we dicided to give it a try and the security stopped us...and they said friday family day, qataris and western only...what the hell? what kind of rules is this? i was so pissed and we managed to get in from a friend, on the way out, we give the security a sharp look in the eye...
City Centre Shopping Mall has recently instituted a policy of Family Day every single Friday. I live just opposite, and witnessed some fairly ugly scenes last Friday as groups of single men were confronted at the doors. If I had a young family with me here I would not be concerned about who they shopped with. I would be more concerned that they saw this violence, and this rascist and unfair behaviour. It is shameful that this discrimination is allowed to continue
Vegas ...look at the opportunity...lol
These guys dont date ...they just stare....now if they want to stare they got to date...lol
Forgiveness is life...:)
This could lead to dating...!
The "Bachelor" boys would ask "Single" girls to accompany them to the Mall just so that they can get in...
Another excuse to ask a girl out...lol
old news but really bad.every time i go with my gf. so no problem 4 me.
I have a 7 year old daughter who was grabed twice by one those so called bachelors, once at hayatt palaza and once at the mall, so i'm fine with that law. I know i'm generalizing here but life is not fair.
I always tell the truth, even when I lie
Thats rediculous....
This is racism!!! And by the way if the goverment does not want the labours around, villagio, city center, and the souq why they dont change the free day of them... and mine too, I dont like to mix with this type of people. "RACIST PEOPLE"
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!
The Venezuelan Sensation!!!
