Michael Debakey, a medical pioneer pass away
At the age of 99, one of the icons of heart surgery and mainly open heart surgery passed away yesterday.
Michael Ellis DeBakey is a world renowned cardiovascular surgeon, medical inventor, medical statesperson, and teacher who is chancellor of the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, chair and Olga Keith Weiss Professor of its department of surgery, and director of the DeBakey Heart Center. He is the recipient of the America's highest civilian honor, the Medal of Honor with Distinction (awarded in 1969), and of the country's highest scientific award, the National Medal of Science (1987). DeBakey is best known for his landmark cardiovascular surgeries , including the first successful implantation of an artificial heart in 1966. He also pioneered the use of artificial arteries andcoronary bypass , invented new equipment and instruments, and conducted important research on the causes of arteriosclerosis.

The homeland of Dr. Dabaghi (Anglicized DeBakey).
For sure one should be proud of the place he belongs to, his nationality, his workplace, among other things.
Quoting him during his visit to Lebanon in 2005: nostalgia and respect for his homeland, Dabaghi said: "Every time I come back to Lebanon, my mother country, I feel warm and surrounded by my family and loved ones.
"I thank God for being born and brought up here, for having been equipped with all those values and spiritual straightness. Those are two things we acquire and are never born with."

At least there is a new generations of cardiovascular surgeons, that follow his teachings and procedures.
Dr. Michael Debakey, pretty much wrote, The bible of procedures of cardiovascular surgery.
Do you know, according to CNN, before his death, he stated : He is proud that he share his knowledge and effort for humanity and he is proud of being American.
This guy used to work 16 hours a day, 365 days and work out 2 hours a day and did maintain a healthy diet.

On December 31, 2005, at age 97, DeBakey suffered an aortic dissection. Years prior, DeBakey had pioneered the surgical treatment of this condition, creating what is now known as the DeBakey Procedure.[2] He was hospitalized at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.
of a great medical talent. I think they used his own procedure to give him an extra three years of life, of which he almost refused.
