Qatar living on Gulf Times News
SOME 50 members and well-wishers of online community www.qatarliving.com donated money to stranded Indian expatriate P Aboo to help settle his debts.
After Gulf Times published a report on Friday, aid pledges began pouring in to bail out Aboo who has been doing odd jobs to clear his rental arrears.
Speaking on behalf of Qatar Living yesterday, one of its member, identified as “Speed”, said: “About 50 people turned up yesterday at a collection point to make donations. We are collecting money again on Wednesday.”
He said the money raised would be handed over to the Indian ambassador on Thursday. “The amount would be known only after Wednesday’s collection,” he said.
Aboo, who comes from Kerala’s Chavakkad town, has not travelled home for more than nine years as he owed more than QR200,000 to the owner of a building where he ran a restaurant seven years ago. The eatery was closed down in 2001 following losses.
Two Indian entrepreneurs have agreed to clear his outstanding debts of QR25,000.
