Jet-skiers annoying people on Corniche

Jet-skiers making a splash and lot of noise on the Corniche.
AS the temperature begins to drop slightly at around half past five each evening, the noise of jet ski engines can be heard at a number of Doha’s marinas along the Corniche, as well as West Bay lagoon, as jet-skiers perform tricks to a mixed response from onlookers.
Along the strip of water leading past the Diplomatic Club towards the West Bay lagoon, many people gather to watch the jet-skiers show off their stunts.
However, not everyone appreciates the performance of the youths on their powerful machines, and many worry for their safety.
“What they are doing looks very dangerous,” said one expatriate walking on the Corniche. She found the noise of the jet-skiers particularly annoying.
One jet ski owner explained that people who operate the machines need to register at the main Doha Port coastguard office when they first buy their jet skis, at which point they are provided a number and sticker to prove they are registered users.
“If you get asked by a coastguard, you need to provide them with your number and name and they can verify whether you are allowed to be driving the jet ski,” he explained.
A number of expatriates have lauded recent restrictions imposed at Al Safliya Island where buoys have been placed alongside a coastguard presence at the weekend to prevent jet-skiers from coming too close to the beach.
However, the skiers continue to annoy people, and one visitor to the island yesterday evening said that he had been bothered by the “reckless youths, who don’t seem to care for their or anyone else’s safety.”
Many view them as a nuisance, and a security guard at West Bay lagoon described how many riders attempt to get inside the area which is restricted to residents and guests.
“There are between 20 and 50 jet skis here every day,” he said, adding “when we open the gate for boats, many try to rush inside. However, if any do get in, I call the coastguard who comes to take them out again.”
A resident of the lagoon, Iain Kennedy, said that a major danger of the machines was driving them at night. “Every single manual for jet skis explains they should never be operated at night – however people race them around the lagoon in the dark which is seriously dangerous.”
“They also affect people swimming during the day, and annoy boats by trying to splash them,” he said, adding “they often chase waterskiers or wakeboarders which is also really dangerous.”
“I think there should be increased coastguard presence, and some sort of screening process before people can own or rent a jet ski,” he argued, claiming that at least a basic knowledge of acceptable and safe behaviour is necessary.
Kennedy described one head-on collision he had seen, and referred to many others he has heard about, pointing out the serious consequences that this recklessness can cause.

what seemed like a nearly perfect sunny day could have been a disaster.

i nearly died and drowned because of 1 jetskier in dubai gurhood area where they used 2 rent jetskis

what happened was i went with a classmate of mine during our weekend break and we thought we'd give them jetskis a try, we took a round for trial all was fine, paid the money for 1 hour and wore our life jackets and off we went, next thing you know some wacko is lunging at me and decides to charge his jetski into mine at superspeed, obviously my reflexes weren't working or otherwise i wouldn't have been hit, i seriously said my last duaa's and held on to the jet while he came on to with great force, luckly for me i didn't fall of my jetski although he did. i got scared because i saw him go into the water and not come out but i was scared tp jump into the sea because i wasn't such a great swimmer and am sure i would have drowned, anyways thank god my friend came with help and he was brought out safely

Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought him back. we both went to the shore and luckly we both escaped with few bruises and minor scraps..when he was asked why did he lung at me liket that, he thought i was the one who splashed him with water and decided to take revenge, f**kin idiot could have cause the death of two people over his stupidity.

i haven't been jetskiing since that freaky experience

Just call me Tigasin. That's what I'm talking about

That's the answer. Better still, some enterprising soul could set up stalls at all the areas where the little jet ski monkeys aren't supposed to be, and charge people a small fee to take potshots at them.

Now that would be funny.

And hell no not excited...but yes indeed an interesting bloke I have to admit mate...so we need to catch up alright...doesnt matter not everything gives us satisfaction that we do right...so its alright...to have a bit of disappointment...so when are you getting your azz to meet the rest some of us...

I love watching them.

I love how they think they are showing off to the girls, but really the girls are laughing at them. They think they are these brave, hot, adventurous guys but they just normally look like fat, bored guys totally starved for attention. It's quite funny!

It would be a different thing if they could actually do half the stunts they attempt, but normally most of their attempts end in failure. Often this is pretty funny too.

I also love watching them with the hope that they will run aground or have a head on collision or something.

The come so close to the shore and the breakwater that it's just too much of a temptation to look away. Some days I'm rewarded for my patience and they have a crash. Hilarious.

O really I might have figured that they are restricted near the beaches, but even on the corniche, and yes they shouldnt be splashing water on the people walking on the corniche, to that extent they should be restricted but hey nothing else alright...fair enough right...

Tallg, you seem like an interesting bloke, we need to catch up mate, we have shared quite a few conversations but one of those people whom I havent met, whats with the identity secrecy...eyyy...

I'm not denying that it's thrilling, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be done responsibly. Racing cars is thrilling, but that doesn't mean you should be allowed to do it on public roads. And they do put peoples lives in danger when they get near the beaches and islands. They have little regard for other users of the water.

btw, they can and do impose restrictions on the water. They are not allowed by the Corniche or the hotel beaches, but unsurprisingly this is ignored.

Not a bad idea actually... We'll get quite some discount on them for the quantity.

TallG: Well, they are an annoyance for those who dont see the fun and the thrill of it...its the damn waters mate, you cant start imposing restrictions that this is the are ear marked for Jet Skies, and this for swimming, and this for peace-loving walkers and joggers on the Corniche, or for those who are coming to have a little time out with their family, they are no freaking havoc or danger...they dont come on the roads do they, and they certainly dont put other lives in danger except for theirs...so I think its still THRILLING!!! O mate, trust me given these uptight people on board here a chance, they would freaking ban them completely...they want something with WORLD PEACE!!!LOL!

Charan...yea man, indeed...thats what I say, a THRILL RIDE!!!

ksarat, I'm sure no-one wants to stop them completely, but there are plenty of places they can do it without annoying the general public. When they do it by the Corniche they are just an annoyance, but they become a hazard and a danger when they are by the islands or the hotel beaches or in West Bay Lagoon.

tell me this buddy, whats the use of a thrill rider if you aint going to get any thrill out of it...you dont get amazed boy...so stop complaining and even better dont bother about the corniche, I mean the people who buy these things, o hell yeah I would support them to take that thrill out till the last penny I say!!!

Its not a TOY CAR or a REMOTE CONTROL CAR...its a damn Jet Ski mate...you have got to be riding it with power to feel the rush of blood...to hell with the people on the Corniche I say!!!

You can rent them out at the Diplomatic club. An hour is plenty long enough. I recommend it.

Agree with Tallg though, the idiots on the jets skis are the same idiots that are on the road. At least when they are on the water they pose a lesser danger than when they are in the road.

Just call me Tigasin. That's what I'm talking about

Well, it still looks stupid and it surely doesn't amaze anyone. You can still enjoy riding a jet-ski when you're using it properly.. IMO

What the hell is going on here, aaaah come on folks, loosen up will ya...its the thrill that they enjoy and you all dont, so stop complaining, just because you are on the corniche it doesnt mean you need to have a freaking quiet day alright, you are there for a reason, they are also there for a damn reason...

so stop complaining, if they get hurt its rather their problem, and I think, personally, they are quite skilled at it...some of them arent, but then again, most of them are...so let them enjoy the Adrenaline Rush alright...and let them do what they ENJOY!!!

I mean, what else is there in Qatar to do, go to the corniche with your GF and have a Quiet Honey Honey talks...o chuck it mates...this is far more fun!!!

Rock on Jet SKieeees...Rock on!!!

They act the same on the water as they do on the roads, if not worse. Attempts to curb erratic and dangerous driving are having limited effects, so what hope is there of teaching them how to use a jet ski responsibly.

These kids don't understand the danger, they just think it's cool. The problem is their aren't many women on corniche at that time. I wonder who do they do these stunts for lol.

when they collide with each other at high speed. This has been known to happen as the are quite wreckless in their attempts at showing off.

Now, they have to register if they are jet-skiers??

Maybe next time, the pedestrians have to register first before walking outside.

A whole lot of them needs attention.
