dear Canadians! Please advice!
I am a non-muslim Canadian and my fiancée is a muslim. What our options are in terms of registration of our Marriage? What institution to apply to? Should it be Shariah Court? a church? some non-religious Registration Office?
Thanks a lot for your help!
I dont know about Canadian rules but to get marriage certificate from Qatar you need your fiancee to bring a letter that shows she is not married before or a divorce letter that is if you wish to go the Sharia Court.
its at Rayyan Road, near the Emir Palace.

Ok, well you should contact BOTH of your embassies then and see what the process is. I believe the Canadian embassy will have to do a background check on him first...though that might only be when or if he applies for citizenship. Either way, Kuwait is who you should contact, and you will probably have to have the signatures witnessed at the British embassy here.
thanks Gypsy. Sorry for misleading. Both my fiancée and I live in Qatar. So the question is where should I obtain a marriage certificate? We don't have a canadian embassy in Qatar, do we?
Regardless of your religion in Canada you need to have an official government marriage certificate for it to be legally recognized. You can get these from your local court house, or your embassy.
For the ceremony, you can go through a religious organization, but the marriage is not legally valid until you sign the certificate.

The nearest a Canadian Embassy is in Abu Dhabi, though I doubt you'd be able to assist you with the registration.
You might wanna check them out.
I do know for a fact that, you're able to register the marriage officially in Toronto's City Hall, or elsewhere
in Canada.
Good luck.
