Hi Andy and Rutland,
I went up there today and thought I'd let you know how I got on.
I arrived expecting to have to sign up to the club etc and pay joining fees, fill in forms, show my passport etc etc, but in fact you can just turn up and shoot!
It cost 50 riyals for a round of skeet (inc ammo and gun), which I had a pop at, and some kind of sporting layout which was busy with others shooting. I was the only foreigner there.
They had a small selection of mainly rusty old blunderbuses, with one reasonable beretta skeet gun, which I used.
So in summary, pretty good allround, and very easy to get going!
Many thanks indeed and hope to see you there sometime!
Thanks Andy that's really helpful of you! much appreciated.
Cheers
Pirran
You will not be allowed to keep one at home. It is possible to ship firearms over and store them at the club although it is a pretty tortuous process. They have an armoury on site. I was given this info by the club two years ago so check it for currency.
Thanks guys that's a great help! I'll bowl down there when I get a chance and let you know how I get on. Good to hear there is rifle shooting too.
My gun's back in the UK - do you know what the firearms laws are here for expats?
Thanks again,
Pirran
Let us know how you get on. I sold my 12 bore before I came out here so I would not mind having a look and getting back into it.
The gun shop in Villagio looks about ready to open, that should prove interesting!
There is a very active shooting club on Arab League Street at Duhail. They have clay pigeon shooting - 4 multi-discipline layouts - as well as rifle and pistol ranges. Ex-Pats are welcome.
Take Arab League St out of Doha, past the College of the North Atlantic and you will see an entrance in the long wall on the left. The enrance is signed as General Guards but it is common to the shooting club. As you enter you will see the club house and ranges on the right. Enjoy - I only wish I had time:)
