At least you'll have seen Dubai less metropolis'ised (yes, bad English but a new word perhaps...) 5 yrs ago, it was pretty much all desert when I first went there 26 yrs ago to visit my Dad who's been there ever since...

I think Doha has a charm about it, character & (as yet) the Corniche hasn't been swallowed by towers all around its edge as Dubai has done with it's beaches.

That's the joke, you drive down Beach Road & are not able to see any beach, or sea for that matter!!

I live in Ezdan (Al Dafna) so know about City Centre if that's what you're referring to down by The Sheraton - yeah it's growing like crazy, just hope it doesn't spread all down the Corniche so you can't see the sea when driving along it!!

Don't know how long I'll be here, am happy so far & unless the company moves me, I'm happy to ride the Qatar wave for the time-being & into the future, have no plans to permanently return to the UK - maybe get my son out here at some point when he's finished college!

Been here for 7 yrs. Arrived when i 7 mths pregnant. Son born here and never lived anywhere else in his life. So when people asked where is he from he will said he is from Doha.

I never lived in dubai before ... only been there for 5 days , and it was long time ago (5 yrs ago). For me Doha not particularly brilliant place to live, but is not that bad either. As far as my better half happy here i am happy.

Talking about concrete jungle ... have you been to City Centre area ? I think Doha is on the way what is Dubai now...

So Torque, how many years you plan to be here in Doha?

Off & on about a month, was in Dubai for 2 yrs previously & I think Doha (can't really comment on the rest of Qatar as I've not seen it yet...) has a lot to offer in comparison with the concrete jungle & hustle-bustle dog eat dog nature of Dubai, not to mention people with heads buried where the sun doesn't shine....

This time of year, this bug should be rampant. After all most folks here are from Europe and used to not working in August and mix in this lovely weather and wallah. Somebody give me an ax! I remember my first real winter season away from home (where we don't have any), man I though I was losing it.

They can be a real doozie. I think the weather has a lot to do with it. The humidity of off the charts! This will be a challenging Ramadan this year for sure. So early in the calendar and during the summer heat and long days. Pray for strength. And be extra careful and patient.
