You can't "just throw some in". They have to have reached the pre-defined Olympic standards to be allowed to compete. So for example, a 100m sprinter must have run 100m under a certain time to be allowed to enter the Olympics.

The women are just as likely as the men to win a medal, so why not just throw some in?

Is it that offensive to have a couple of women, even as a token gesture, on the team?

hope in future.

I think the former champion of International Chess has joined the Qatar nationality. she was a Chinese and married to a Qatari.

I'm sure Qatar would have sent female athletes if any had met the standards required to enter the Olympics. I reckon there'll be some there in 2012.

Have you seen the new racing swimsuits? They almost look like burkinis. All the way down to the knees, shoulders covered, and head as well. Supposedly they help with a faster time!

Qatar has a population of around 200,000.. They are just getting into sports.. Culture is quite protective of women and you already want women on the team??

India has a population of 1 billion. They had a team of about 60. Looked like they had about 8 women..
