Surrender your passport
Dear friends,
I believe this has been addressed here before, since the rules keeps on changing I thought of gethering the lateset information.
Do you have to surrender your passport as soon as you join the company. Does this apply to all nationalities? or it does actually depend on the company you work for.
your precious comments are much appreciated.
Thanks
They can keep it as long as they pay me top Riyals. who cares as long as you get what you want. look it this way. you are keeping your passport in a safe deposit box without any fee :)
A passport is your personal document...they cannot take it....and its illegal if they do.
Its like surrendering your degree certificates with your employer.
and giving away your passport thats illegal act they wont fire you if you refuse. just give it to them to get you the RP on it and get it back.

It depends on the company as well as the person's grade. But apparently it is not really legal. As mentioned by Vegas, it doesn't make much of a difference in any event since you can't just leave the country...
You can't teach experience
I kept the passport with me when I was employed with my previous company. Though I have to surrender it last week for the sponsorship/visa transfer to my new employer.
I think it's now illegal for employers to hold on to the passport of the employees but I guess it's still practiced.
I don't know about other nationalities but I didn't need to surrender my passport, would find it difficult as it is so important.
