My computer is almost new Windows 2003. Recently I have given for formatting the computer to the same shop from where I purchased. One nepali boy is doing this formatting in this shop. After we brought the same back at my home I started to work it is showing that the Modem is not detecting. I contact this guy again he is telling that you may be have the c.d. of modem. When we purchased they didn;t give the CD only given sound card and webcam cd. Now they are telling that if we want to incorporate the modem they will charge additional 50 riyals. Is it genuine because before formatting he should have told us after formatting the modem will go. More than that this is under warranty. How can I detect the modem. Or shall I pay QR50/- against and reload the same

Check your modem vendor and model. Search it in the google, download drivers in the vendor site by specifying correct model and platform used. ciao!

Your PC should pick up the driver and install it automatically, however if this is not happening the best thing for you to do is to go to the microsoft website and download the latest service pack for your pc. I know with vista, windows cannot sometimes find the drivers due to a corrupt INFCACHE.1 file. and installing the service pack will fix this.

Secondly you could do a google search for 'software drivers' and put the make of your modem in as well.

baldrik, how can he go online if his modem is not installed??

You can try to physically remove the modem from the slot and then put it back in. If Windows 2003 (?) still doesn't recognize it you have to go to the modem manufacturer's web page and download the appropriate driver for the modem. (You will need to ask somebody to do it for you as long as you cannot connect).

However, who in the world is still using a modem??
