Only for .......

What beats me here is whenever you are looking for housing and you see ads either in the papers or on notice boards they always Put "Only for Indians" or "Only for Philipinos". This really doesmy head in because what about those in the middle who are either of these nationalities and who too are here to work and may have not been given accomodation but rent allowance and so on. i mean what are these people to do live in the cornish. I remember when I first came here and was house hunting I had this problem.i mean these people who are renting the place are not even the owners and they were not even sharing the accomodation.I remember i went to see many beautiful places or phoned up at the time for some very nice place and as soon athey heard my accent the place had already gone. i mean can you imagine in Britain putting an ad in the papers. Flat for rent "English only".
Pathetic isn't it. I think people have got to stop this bad attitude. I mean i have a friend who is looking for a room at the moment and he asked me to look out for him.I can see the same thing over and over.Only for..... Only for.......
The thing is my mate is neither of these nationalities stated and is desperate for a room.So I guess you have to stay in corniche under that bridge there mate. Or get another nationality.

...however it is not that easy! This country has elements of multi-culturalism but is still extremely secular.

Also, indian and Filipino expats often cook and eat together unlike many from the UK. (I know some do)

Many don't speak English that well and may want to converse in their own mother tongue.

The cooking of certain foods can also produces different smells which appeal to some but are repulsed by others.

So you see, they are not trying to be discriminatory, they just prefer to be at ease and better safe than sorry.

hi Bahraini

you see the problem is that these people live already in a multicultural society, they work in one too. yet when they leave a place they restrict it to their own kind. The problem is that many of the land lords don't bother to rent the houses themselves they live it in the hands of somebody. He ends up choosing who he wants and whio he doesn't.However if one went directly to the landlord I am sure he would not say, for Indian only or philipino only.

I understand when it come to the issue of sharing accomodation but twhen they are leaving they do the same thing

cool down man

i have suffered this very recenly .. its some kind of building their own socities .. certain people in each race prefer not socialize or get exposed to any different culture so thats why they prefer creating their own society by publishing this kind of ads all around ...

i know house hunting sucks ... all the best for your friend :)
