Need advise on configuring to catch a wireless network

I put a D-Link pci wireless card in my desktop PC (NOT LAPTOP). It installed properly. However, when i try to connect to one of the wireless networks listed (showing 20 to 30% Strength), it does not allow me to select any one network and stops responding. Any ideas? Has someone encountered the same problem. Thanks
Are you trying to connect to your wireless device . you must have wireless access point in your house otherwise you cannot connect to neighbours wireless .If you are able to connect neighbours wireless its your luck but its not good.
Where is the aerial? If it is stuck under a desk next to a wall your signal strength will be low. I bought a USB version and put it on a long wire to go from my bedroom to get a signal from another room in my house. That might help, but as stated, you can only get onto unsecured and if there are none available you've wasted your money.
Try to move the PC around your house and find a better signal before going further.
You can only connect to "unsecured" networks unless you have a network ID number.
