Kerala desert (payasam)

Last year, when we went to Kerala, we had a desert called payasam (sorry if I misspelled it). It was vermicelli cooked in a nice sweet cream sauce. I think it had some cashew nuts in it as well, can't remember exactly, but I do remember it was delicious!
Can I find that here in Doha? If so, where?

Recipe for Vermicelli Kheer

Ingredients

Cut vermicelli 1/2 cup

1% milk 1/2 gallon

Pure Ghee 4 tbsp.

Sugar 1 cup

Cardamom powder 1 tsp.

Cashews (whole) 4-6

Raisins 4-6

Take a pan, add ghee and fry cut vermicelli until golden brown.

Add 2 cups of milk and let the vermicelli cook. Add remaining milk, and let it simmer on medium heat until the milk starts to condense.

Add powdered cardamom.

Fry the cashews and raisins in a separate pan with ghee until golden brown.

Add to the above and stir well.

Serve.

Its called kheer.....and congrats you got the ingredients correct...lol

And its prepared by all Indian, Nepali, Pakistani & Afghani families, especially during Eid.

I wonder if Kheer is also common among arabs?

Indian Veg Restaurants like Aryas, Bharat & Shalimar make kheer but on different days they make different kheer eg sunday - vermicily kheer, monday-rice kheer, tuesday-something else...etc. So you have to make sure that they have the "Vermicili-Kheer" on their menu-for-the-day.

Fatcat....the easiest way would be to ask any Indian, Nepali, Pakistani or Afghani family to make it for you.

Its tastes best when it has that Ghee-like flavour and smell.
