Iftar tent recommendations

By tallg

Does anyone recommend a particular Iftar/Suhoor tent at any of the hotels as being especially good? Or advise which ones aren't that good?

We have visitors arriving at the end of Ramadan and are currently considering the tents at either the Ritz-Carlton or the InterCon. Any comments/suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hehe... we went to Sharq Village last night, the food is awful, and I was literally on the verge of throwing my Evian bottle at the entertainment. It was so loud we couldnt even talk to the people beside us, forget the ones across from us. It was some Syrian singers, grant you they were good but it got a bit boring.

I must be a simple gal.... all I could do is wish I was eating sardines last night :(

Hi Amoud, it was lovely meeting you... and I am glad you like sardines as much as I do;-)

Ritz was last year, year before I went to diplomatic club. All are great, but I would have to say I LOVE the diplomatic club tent the best. I love all the twinkling stars. Ritz has the best entertainment.

Does anyone know if the diplo club has their bazaar tent this year? That was fabulous the last 2 years.

Well I happen to like sardines, can't stand smoked salmon. Sardines came to mind because they really pack 'em in at the Intercon tent :-)

By the way, how did you like it, tallg?

That isn't surprising notfromhere. I don't think the InterCon bills itself as a classy hotel in the same way somewhere like the Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton does.

I think the InterCon probably pitches itself slightly higher than Sardines, but not as high as Caviare. Smoked salmon perhaps!

We went to the Four Seasons last night, and I'd have to say it's like comparing sardines (Intercon) to caviar (Four Seasons).

I had fun at the Intercon..we had a group of about 40.. It was packed and noisy, but they do have that great view.

The 4 Seasons was more elegant. Classier entertainment. Smaller and more intimate, which was nice as there were only 4 of us.

Good food at both.

Well, just got back from our first outing to the Intercon tent... half our teeny group didnt show up but we had an amazing time..... and Cristiana is such a doll :)

Absolutely fab... not too loud, not smokey, great food and the little spinning guy is cute :)

Hi Christina, thanks for dropping in.

We actually sneaked into your Ramadan tent last night to have a look, and I agree it is much better than last year. Still small compared to the Ritz Carlton, for example, but better nonetheless.

By sharing tables I think people mean that the rectangular tables are all laid out in long rows, so one group of people are sat next to another group, if you see what I mean.

Anyways, you'll be pleased to know we've booked a table with you. The price after Privilege Club discount made it a no-brainer! If you can pull some strings to get us the table with the best view (preferably a round one) that would be great ;-p

HI you guys, replying staight from InterContinental...

I am quite pleased with all the postings, very interesting to have objective comments.

Tallg, I hope you will visit our tent and post your comments. One point though: we never had sharing tables for Ramadan and also last year our tent was on the beach...

Round tables are really comfy if it's a group of ten, so that you can all talk to eachother. For smaller groups certainly better the rectangular.

The view is definitely our best asset, along with the food, I guess, but that's my personal taste:-)

Please book a table, especially if you are planning to come during the weekend and sometimes it's all booked out for one big event.

Novita, my bella, I haven't seen you around for a while... this year the speakers are much higher as the tent is about double the height of last year's... so no worries, you can talk to your mates without loosing your voice!:-) hope to see you soon!

Try visit AL BUSTAN HOTEL 4* located at Old Salata St. The have a tent, small though but is nice. I have seen the place but did not tried their food. Just went there for a site inspection. I believe you have to make reservations first if you are planning to go with 10 other people.

I had been to Diplomatic Club, that was great, they make you feel at home and food was according to Arab standards plentiful.

Earlier I went to La Cigale fatoor tent, and that was an absolute joke for the price you pay and the food was quite minute...not to mention I bumped into a person whom I knew from Perth, Austrlia (reunion are not my forte)

Then on Thursday went to intercon ramadan tent...all i can say it was bad..crowded...long line for getting some food...didn't appreciate it.

Until recently attending fatoor/ramadan tent at my own house...many benefits of that...no lining up..its free and you decide on the food you want in the morning.

Oh, tables near the windows are far from the dervish, if that matters to you. They had the guy way over by the entrance instead of in the center where everyone could see him. But IMO the view was better than the entertainment anyway.

Tallg, I didn't make the booking. Was with a large group so we had 2 long tables.

There are both long and round tables near the windows.

I've been to a few and the only one I would tell you NOT to go to would be the Dip Club.

It's cheap, bad music, awful food and the 'tent' is just a joke. It's almost worth telling you to go for a laugh, what with the stupid lighting and the plastic crap hanging from the roof and these random plants all over the place (try walking around without tripping on a pot plant - it's a damn fire hazard).

The other tents have some style and class to them. My favourite has been the Ritz and the Four Seasons and the Al Sharq. The Four Seasons has a good selection of food, the Ritz has an amazing atmosphere and Al Sharq is smaller and a bit quieter.

Yes, I meant Suhoor genesis. Most of the hotels call them Iftar tents though!

notfromhere - were you able to specify a table when you booked. Were you on a round or long table?

It is better to book for suhoor. Sharq village has a nice ambiance, food & sheeha. I also recommend the ritz carlton tent. Stay off four season & La cigal, Too noisy & bad sheesha.

You have to make your booking early as most the tents will be fully booked this week

Tallg, I'm jumping in here late, but my vote goes to the Intercon. Food, good. Entertainment, so-so. The tent now has one wall that's all windows with an awesome view of the Doha skyline, so try to get a table with a view.

Well just checked with InterCon and Privilege Club members get 25% discount, so it's an easy decision really as that makes it much cheaper than Ritz-Carlton.

7 yrs here , only been to ramadan tent last year ... that was with Xena and QAWS people in intercon.

Tallg, if you book in Intercon, make sure you ask not to be seated next to the speaker. Or you will leave the tent deaf.

I just called to check. There are both round and long tables. Prices are 195 Qrs, Iftar and 225 Qrs, Suhoor. Last day 30 Sept. Reservations paramount.

So they're still using long tables with everyone sat together? That was one aspect I didn't like last year.

you get a good choice of seating (according to a friend who's booking an entire table for a group of us next week).

for the info. Now all I have to do is persuade my other half that he REALLY wants to go out at 10.00 at night. This could be a problem. :/

I suppose you do - but wasn't sure (since it's a big event/area) whether you can just turn up (like if there's just 2 or 3 of you and NOT at the week-end) and pay at 'the gate' so to speak.

I think everyone just sits at long tables with everyone else, don't they? As you can tell, I've not been to a Ramadan Tent, so have no idea .....

Mmmm...sounds like InterCon Suhoor tent is the place to go this year then. Is the tent big enough to accommodate everybody and all the food? Last year when they had it inside it was way to cramped.

Ya i am the expert, i go to one everynight, nothing better to do :( Yaa they have entertainment in Intercon, they have a live band, a magic show with white doves and fire LoL, they have a very good hot Lebanese singer lady, and the spinning weird Egyptian Man, its so strange how he spins with his big dress on for like 10 minutes without getting dizzy and he starts lifting up his skirt and makes weird shapes... Its great :) The food is a mix of everything... Arabic, Indian, Chinese, Moroccan, Continental... Fresh bread maker ladie... Amazing deserts... The tent is very beautiful.. its like all glass around u and u can see the sea and the big towers on the corniche lit up... Its very nice :)

Ah, sorry Voyageress, bad wording on my part. They arrive on 28th so will experience a couple of days of Ramdan.

I've heard good things about the InterCon one on the beach as well, but last year we went to InterCon one when it was inside and it was rubbish.

Last two years we've been to Ritz-Carlton and it's been excellent, but it's expensive and we fancied a change.

Intercontinental Tent i think is the best... Very nice food, good sheesha and the entertainment is also good...

Marriott wasnt that good, the food was nice but the sheesha was terrible as was the entertainment, small hall, no AC and very empty.

Ritz Carlton.. Didnt go this year but last year it was amazing... Great Moroccan food, nice entertainment with dancers and live singers and the spinning egyptian man... great sheesha...

I also heard that Diplomatic club is the best in Do7a but good luck trying to get a table, ive tried for soooo long and its always fully booked.. :)
