Qataris should invest in Qatar - Platini

Uefa president Michel Platini has launched a scathing attack on the influx of foreign owners in the Premier League over the last few years.

He said: "If you bring people from Qatar and there is no-one from Liverpool or Manchester at the club, where is Liverpool or Manchester?

"I think it is not good. I think the Qataris should invest in Qatar.

When the arabs started investing in the football clubs of England, it has touched a raw nerve it seems. Else why would this reaction be there?

but your wrong.. ManCity was taken over in Sep 2008. Even as recently Jun 2008 Platini attacked Chelsea and Man Utd 'as cheats', for using Foreign Millions to win tournaments. As a Chelsea die hard, ive listened to complaints from UEFA, about this issue, for 2 years at least. Its has nothing to do with suddenly becoming an issue now Arab money is involved.

Im unsure what you are trying to achieve by making such a statement, Im not looking for a fight here but your facts are wrong.

That is not strictly true.. Before the Americans, Liverpool were being touted for Dubai Investment Corporation .

I think people would prefer "Arab" money, because they see them as wanting to invest for pleasure and not business..

MHL, the officialdom started to speak out only when the Arabs poured their money into M city. not before. supporters were concerned especially so in MU and Lpool.

is well reknowned in England that Platini is extremely anti-Premier League, ( if not anti English). He has made repeated discourging comments about many aspeacts of the game back home. Some have basis, some are ridiculous. Its typical case of great ex footballer thinking he's a world authority on the game.

Everton are indeed the club with the latest rumours of a Billionaire buyout, ( Qatar being one of many mentioned).

Football fans in England are extremely cautious and obviously excited for many reasons, when a wealthy consortium or owner takes an interest. To say its only an issue now that Arabs are showing an interest actually shows your a lack of knowledge on the matter. Ask Chelsea and Man Utd fans, ( the real ones, not the plastics, how concerned they were when the Russians and the Yanks took over. United had protests and talks of boycotts.)

If Qatar gets a Premier lge club it can only raise the Countrys profile. Hardly anybody I know back in the UK has ever heard of Qatar. Thats the truth, I would love to know where Amnesia read that most Brits think Abu Dhabi is in Qatar....really!! Its more likely they would think Qatar is in Abu Dhabi

The QFA needs to sort itself out and get the Qatar League recognised. It's not very well know in Qatar, let alone the rest of the world!

There is plenty of money here for the Qatar League already so saying 'Qataris should invest is ridiculous' (indeed, I've concluded that most of Platini's statement is ridiculous). Despite the money I don't think the league is being managed and promoted correctly.

Why waste money on players for Al Sadd, (which still cost millions) when you can buy into the world publicity and status of the English Premier League.

Some rich Sheik will get bored supporting his local club and can fight a pseudo battle against Abu Dhabi via football in another country....

Lytham St Anne's first eleven is a ldies hockey team.

Amnesia..

Theer were rumours that QIA may be after investing in a football club. Everton was mentioned.

By the way.. This is interesting..

3 ...and the most important place in world football is now Doha

The Qatari capital has always been the city where the economists decamp for the annual world trade talks – about as lively as Wigan v Bolton on a wet Tuesday night – but it's suddenly become the place which might just prove the salvation for Newcastle, Everton and any other clubs who aspire to bestride the European stage. The City revolution underlines the fact that the American buy-up of Premier League football is over. The Americans thought they could make profits from the game (buying into United, Liverpool, Everton, Aston Villa and Arsenal) but, United and possibly Arsenal apart, can't make the financial model work. With the Russian oligarchs looking increasingly to their own nation, the Arabs are the future. Enter Qatar – an oil state eagerly looking for new sources of revenue. Five international art museums are in the pipeline and British opportunities appeal as much to its people as they do to the Abu Dhabis. They have shares in Barclays Bank, and the Qatar Investment Authority also holds a 27 percent share in Sainsbury's. With Everton's Bill Kenwright among those yearning for a billionaire to rescue him, the Premier League looks like its next supermarket sweep.

if he thinks he can change the football world to a better place. His French utopian ideas are just the stuff of philisophy. Maybe he should re-read Plato's Republic to keep himself happy....

The fans of teams do not care where their players come from as long as they win and they are entertained, but if they think Carlos kick a ball is not pulling his weight or trying his hardest for the club they soon let him know....

At the end of the day, football clubs are businesses so money will always determine what happens to them. Platini's living in a dream world if he expects that to change.

That doesn't suprise me! when I moved to Abu Dhabi, many people said why on earth do you want to go there?!! They thought I meant Aberdovey (which is a dismal Welsh place lol)

Which Qataris is he talking about? Does he mean the Man City investors from Abu Dhabi? If so, that comment makes him look like a bit of an idiot.

lol but look at most of the owners and coaches in England, they're not even British since many years ago. It's only an issue now since Arabs are investing.

Qataris are investing in Qatar heavily, but you still need diversity and spread of risk. That guy's obviously sore.
