DRIVERS!!! Unbelievable!!!
How come it is so difficult to get a freaking driver who is willing to be paid to be available for few hours in the morning??? Oh my god!!! Cant they see that by trying to fit 30 customers in small trips they will end up NEVER getting something long term??
The other day someone picked me up and then "had" to pick someone else up, another client... 30 minutes in that freaking smelly car!!! Just so the dear driver could make sure he would pocket two fares... loser!

carol2008... buy a big car, show no fear and you will soon get used to the doha traffic!
as for the local drivers, i was involved in a minor car accident with one of them.. they may look intimidating at first but they turn out to be more of a gentle scaredy-cat type really
**lateral thinking**
Hi there all i can add to the mix is try driving. I've been here 4 months. When the kids were at school it was a nightmare getting transport, been let down so many times. Now however I have my own car and I'm loving it !!! I feel like I've got my life back and I'm no longer having to rely on people who really aren't that reliable. The roads are a lot less scary when you are in control and even though I've only been driving for less than 2 weeks you get to know the "signs" that someone is about to turn left on the roundabout from the righthand lane ! Don't be worried about getting involved in an incident. The fact that you are female will go in your favour and I have found the locals and police to be both polite and helpful, not that I've had that much to do with either yet ! I personally would highly recommend getting your own transport to help you settle in, and regarding the settling in thing my advise is be patient it will take time.
I-moody... I'm still too scared to drive here. Not for the my driving skills as such but I fear getting involved in an accident specially if it is with a local driver... have heard some scary stories.
Maybe within some time this fear will fade away...for now, I am still hoping to get a fixed driver...
Judging from your English, I guess u must be from the UK.
Carol, I felt same when I came here. But would it not be better to buy your own car? Or like me, you're scared to drive here? You will end up getting used to it, just like I did.
Why some people are so fed up with this place and still kept on living? There is no point of dragging yourself around everyday if you dont like it. I know few things are strange about this place and some are not tolerable specially for new people but as Qatarisun said that just give it some time and concerntrate on positives. This would make your life a little better.
You would meet new people. Try to socialise, it would make things better.
I did the transport/taxi thing for 6 months and it is more stressful and expensive than getting your own car and driving! It took 6 months for me to get brave enough to drive but I couldn't stand relying on drivers all the time!
Drivers are getting more and more arrogant, pretending high fees and they sometimes come late or even don't come at all without any explanation. As a mother with my own car I would suggest to organize a group of parents from the same school and same area and make shedule to share trasportation between us. Contact me if you like the idea, my son is in QIS and we are from Mueither area.
See you!
:O
.
Carol, it gets better. No not the traffic; that gets worse and worse. But life in the weird bubble gets better. Or at least a little less weird.
Hang in there :-)

This is my first option... but it seems impossible to get an exclusive driver!!!
Perhaps the answer to your predicament is to hire a driver exclusively for your own use..
This may be more costly, but less stressful in the long run..
well...still a mistery to me but will search on the internet...

I have no idea where Moldova is... I just found it a funny name. I am from elsewhere. Actually, where is Moldova???
carol your profile says you are from Moldova... so you should be used to weird... what with that break away republic you have in your country.
Yes... I have used Fox before and liked it. On time, good cars...pretty good. Will give them a call and enquire about contracts.
Thanks for the support for everyone who understands how I am feeling...
But the main thing is they are RELIABLE AND ON TIME. I think they do contracts as well. I'll rather pay dubble on the fare, as having to go through a lot of unreliable drivers or use Karwa.
I felt the same when I arrived. I'm also still sorting life out in this weird bubble world.

Carol...dont worry..you will get used to it..I felt it like an alien nation when i came here.
I really am trying... but sometimes life here seems surreal. It is like living in a weird bubble. With its own unique rules...
take it easy..you will get used to it..
