You are so right Pm when you said about this social retardation when people do not consider others. Thats exactly how I see this place in so many levels...
You just put into words my feelings since day one here. I think if locals were not so full of themselves I would even pity them.
I swore off going to Cinema a while ago. Since i can't make it to the earlier shows ,my only convenient times are at weekends & not all shows makes it to the VIP cinema. Two weeks ago, i had to go and watch an Egyptian movie (A really good drama about the coptic -Muslim conflict in Egypt) that i doubt will be out on DVD soon. Not only there was crying babies, songs as ringtones & load phone conversation. But also a bored teenage girl who was taking photo shots with her cell phone. I was so pissed off, i had to walk out of the movie.
You are right....not going to cinema is good as like that we can save money....as same thing with me and i also save a lot of money like that...and now i am watching movies ONLINE :)
in 5 years in doha I have gone to the movies twice. I have learned to live without that sort of entertainment/aggravation. I save a lot of money that way!
Carol, I hardly ever go, the selection's not great, but when I do, I try to avoid the crowds, talkers, and cellphone users by going to the earliest show of the day.
And don't go the first week a movie comes out, esp. American blockbusters like James Bond, etc.

calm down charan not everyone is looking for THOSE kinda DVDs that you watch hehe...agreed if you want a peaceful movie experience invest some money on a big screen tv and good sound system, think of all the money u'd spend on paying 35 riyals for a movie and then end up not liking it, or getting disturbed by pesky kids yelling and screaming.
Good Fortune always comes knocking at your door...when you are sh*tting in the toilet!! :)
never had a bad experience in City Center Carreffour so i'd suggest u go there...avoid the late night shows, thats around the time u have such disturbances.

We watched "Death Race" at City Centre Cinema and apart from the kids going up and down and standing in front of you its okay. If your temper is shorter than mine rather find a better cinema or pay extra and sit in the VIP Cinema.

Genesis, we saw that movie but we were lucky. There were only about 7 or 8 other people in the theater and it was QUIET.
The kid behind me kept kicking my seat and the guy next to me kept texting, but at least no one was talking!

What I don't get is why someone would go to the movies in the first place, if they're NOT GOING TO WATCH THE MOVIE!!
"apart from the kids going up and down and standing in front of you its okay."
lol - those are pretty big things to have to put up with!
I guess I've been lucky, masha'allah!

No problems once you're IN the theater, it can be hell-on-wheels getting to City Center on a weekend and trying to park.
