Question about switching to Qatari driving license

I am currently in Dubai and moving to Qatar shortly. I hold a UAE and US driving license. I am a Pakistani national.

Does anyone know if I will be able to get a Qatari driving license or will I need to do driving tests? I say this because recently a new law was passed in the UAE where even if you have a US driving license, you cannot exchange for a Qatari license until and unless you had a US passport.

Maybe I will be able to use my UAE license to get a qatari driving license?

They do not take your US license, they just need the completed form, with pictures and eye test results (along with the letter from your sponsor) and will give you the new Qatari license and they will return your US license.

Hi Umar,

Question whether they take ur US licence or not depends on the person you would go to for licence. I suggest you insist that you need the US licence back as u would be travelling to US often. Probly they will oblige. Repeat .. do insist ur US licence back.

Best of luck and happy driving.

jqatar,

Did they take from you the US license? or they just need to see it?

I converted my US license to Qatari license just last week with no hassle. Whole process just took a day. I needed a letter from my employer and my original US license.

Your US license should transfer to a Qatari license without any tests regardless of your nationality.
