Of course it is true and I am sure about it.. I have been in Qatar since 1979.. In fact I landed on 3rd September 1979 which was a national holiday day.. Qatar's independence day.. This continued till 3rd September 2006 which was the last time we got a holiday on that day.. Last year, they changed it from 3rd September to 18th December.. As far as I think, 3rd September was the day when Qatar got independence from the British where as December 18th is the day when the royal Al-Thani family into power.. I could be wrong with the actual reason for the change but I am definitely sure about the change of dates.
As per Qatar Labour law 3rd September (National Day or Independence Day) was a public holiday and even though they changed the date to 18th December it is still a public holiday. It does not mean that all private companies will be closed but they should provide a day off or over time to compensate if someone is working.
Yes, its a national holiday actually..! Qatar celebrates its Independence Day on tht date. It was September 3rd till about last year... dont know de exact reason y dey shifted de date 2 18th Dec. Anywayz, it still remains a holiday. But not sure, if every private company needs 2 follow it. So, if ur company is a private now... and doesnt giv u the day off... Ouch...!!
