Eagle, perhaps you do not understand what Qatarisun and I are saying.... they are grades above us but are not qualified to be there, has nothing with "being informed about the world in order to be able to lead company in strategic directions / way forward"...

Amoud- "As for their inflated titles, thats a different story. I have a person in a position above me who gets to sit and read the paper all day and make double my salary... thats something different all togther."

But that's the same for all bosses. It's called "being informed about the world in order to be able to lead company in strategic directions / way forward". Lol.

That's also the reason why you and I have a job. We deal with the details, the bosses concentrate on other things. It's very important to have one's finger on the pulse of the business environment.

I work for the government and all my Qatari counterparts make the same as I do.... in all the departments based on grade and we are more than 1000 employees. Private companies may differ but anything on a grade all the salaries are the same or within a specific range. Only difference is the social allowance, which I dont get but as they are Qataris they dont get housing.... With my housing allowance I actually make more than my Qatari counterparts.

As for their inflated titles, thats a different story. I have a person in a position above me who gets to sit and read the paper all day and make double my salary... thats something different all togther.

well.. then i guess it depends on the company and how "managerial" position is.. I cannot imagine even an office manager or marketing manager of let's say Microsoft or manager of even the smallest branch of any bank would earn 5000 qr...it is nonsense..but if it's some small unknown new establishing not too rich company, so maybe it's ok... so it is hard to evaluate how good the offer is...

Amoud, sorry but i cannot agree with you.. may be egyptians, canadians, Indonesians, etc. make the same.. but Qataris - no! don't forget, no matter how much salary the company gives to qatari, the government almost double this salary.. I know it very well... i work in QATARI company.. when some "HR assistant" who has no idea how to change the width of the column in Excel and who takes 7 days to book a hotel and airticket and is still unable to complete the task... this person gets almost doubled amount of the salary of her manager, who teaches her how to open and save documents, how to scroll down the e-mails to get some information from this e-mail, and who eventually has to do all the job instead of this person anyway...

so this is a different chapter..

You can eat a meal for 100 QAR at a decent restaurant or 30 QAR as a fast food, or even you can make a meal 10 QAR like falafel or shawarma sandwich. (There are many people taking around 2000 QAR and eating and saving at the same time, its up to you how much you spend and what is your expectations) Or at the weekends you can go ATV riding and you can pay 250 for one hour or you can go and watch a movie and pay 25 QAR. Such kind of things make difference ;)

With a normal life style you will spend around 750 usd and you can save the rest. But if you do not care about hanging out and so on you can save more.

I am junior staff, the egyptians, canadians and Qataris all make the same salary, and it is double what you get plus we get housing. Car is on us but we get medical, partial dental, tickets home and partial school fees.

Now tell me if USD 1500 is enough?

QS - Charan's post - Asians earn thereabouts. Nowhere near the Westerners. That's why I said we are cheap-ish labour. One rung above the cheap labour.

/But having said that, for me, it's still better than home, for now. Till other concerns kick in, then I'll see.

boudi27 - Your post is not very clear - your salary of USD1,500 with car and the housing "are on the own of the company" ?? Huh? So the car and housing are provided or not?

- If provided, I think you can survive. Petrol is cheap here. Food wise, very expensive to eat out but just learn to cook or find a way to get food catered at a reasonably price - can be done. And if the offer is better than home, then it's fine.

- But if accommodation is not provided, your accommodation costs will sink you. All the best to you.

/Did you do a search around this site to check? I'm sure it's been posted and discussed somewhere on QL.
