I have met here many many workers who keep nagging and complaining all the time. This has been going since decades. The same workers are still in the country and are still nagging

i agree with you MagicDragon , but in the other hand the force of poverty is the coefficient behind moving ppl to qatar. you can see nipali, filipino, and indians are willing to leave their home countries and accept this type of laws coz they want to safe their families.

but also as soon as they get satisfied with what they've gotten , they return back to their homes and never come back.

also qatar is really developing and more young strong arab country . ofcourse there is some awfull laws like sponsorship. but if we look to the total figure i can say that qatar is still better than other arab countries.

Qatar may be building a new "area" (Ghetto?) for laborers. That doesn't mean that Qatar allows the laborers to move freely. This is called "confinement", which in return is a sweet circumscription of no freedom of movement, no freedom of choice of working place, and so on.

well

Qatar is building a new area for laborers , in the industrial area

Qatar is not the worst , look aat Dubai , look up the "lsbor scandal in Duabi"

it's not slavery since they're paying u wages and all

Gulf countries have historically had restrictions on expatriates switching employment within their host country. Originally envisaged as a means of protecting a company’s investment in overseas recruiting against opportunistic job-hopping, the rules have become a major long-term retention tool for many private sector companies. With most employers refusing to issue the so-called ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) to would-be leavers, unhappy employees often faced a stark choice between staying on in their jobs or leaving the host country altogether.

(Gulf Compensation Trends 2007,GulfTalent.com)

The point is not that "modern slavery" (wording of the UN) exists, the point is that Qatar claims to be observing the Human Rights when at the same time different organizations (GulfTalent, United Nations) clearly state that Qatar is in violation of the Human Rights. Yes, there is "slavery" in Qatar, but we know that. But: the Government tries to tell us the opposite. That's what I call infame.

who cares ..

every one knows how the government of this country works ..

every one knows how people are treated here ..

even before coming to this country , people are well aware of the situation here ...

so if people still after knowing what could and would happen decide to give it a shot .. NOT so much of a slavery now is it ...

though i am a slave down here :-(

( all i wanted was my bed and a ps3 thats it )

I used to work for Indian owned company in US and my room-mate did too. He used to log more than 40 hours with clients but could only report 32 with his Indian owned company because his salary was suitable for 32 hours of work only. He did not get benefits either. For years we could not change employers or move from one state to another. However we were free to leave US on our own will. Guess what though, many of these companies had counterparts in India and they would sue you for thousands of dollars ! So that freedom to leave was there only on paper !

Every country goes through "labour pains" and then gradually changes. Qatar will too in near future..

But did you know how many people left the country and never came back? The Banks got screwed, loans were abandoned and so many problems happened. People even left the country without their families and never came back for them and their families are paying the price of such acts.

Ya googo.giigi, there are too many stories to follow. You should stay where you are and leave Qatar alone. Have you nothing to do?

You forgot the Indians, Nepalis, Bangladeshis, SriLankans, Viatnamese, Lebanese, Malaysians, Indonesians, Thais, Palestinians/Jordanians,....and the list goes on.

Your study is inconclusive....in my opinion, of course

i was there myslf collecting that info from filipinos, chines and little of egyptins , the study was conducted on over 300 ppl in qatar.

about 243 say that country labour laws are modern slavery and they told me their stories and they were confirming as soon as they get some mony they will leave.

other did not want to speak deeply about the issue.

another evidence is QL itself , you can conduct a search for "slavery" and you will say the story yourself.
