OWWA Certificate for Vacationing Dependents

Hello All,

Just want to clarify what i've heard about vacationing dependents of Filipino overseas workers... They said you need to get an OWWA certificate from the Polo office to show at the NAIA when you get back to Doha? How true?

Because OWWA certificates i believe are for dependents who declared themselves as working and registered themselves as member of POEA/OWWA so they get the benefits of being an OFW.

Thanks in advance to those who will share insights and answer this query.

OEC's are for OCW's only, and OWWA Cert. are for dependents for them to avail of a discount from the travel tax imposed for outbound travel from the Phils...Here's a tip if you're planning to get your OEC back home. The best time/day is Thursday or Friday after lunch. You know the penchant of Pinoy's going early and the first few days of the week thinking the adage "early bird cathes the worm" would apply here. Not unless you're a 'crowd' person and a zen disciple for you to bear the long wait amidst a throng of fellow OCWs. But as a last resort option for a worst case scenario where you forgot to get an OEC. It's available at the NAIA!! You can do it in 15 minutes or less!! :)

from how i understood it, if this is your first time to go home, you could only process your owwa membership from here in qatar. for the oec certificate, you'll have that done in the philippines at the poea in ortigas. i would suggest that you go to poea early in the morning because the queue could get reeeaaally long. you'll present the oec at the airport on your flight back to qatar.

for those who have gone home before, the oec certificate can be renewed here in qatar.

OWWA certificate if I am not mistaken is needed at the Airport in order for your dependents to get a big discount on their Travel tax or Reduce Travel Tax.
