Qatar Airways Sucks..

Just arrived in Blighty after a chaotic journey from Doha..
Word of warning to others.. Forget about the new "Online Check-in" from Qatar Airways.

I checked in obnline, printed my boparding pass and arrived at the airport to find utter chaos.

The process is that you go straight to the "Fast Bag Drop" area which should expedite your checkin. Problem uis that most others had the same idea.

There was no real organizations. Not enough staff. No systematic queuing and to cap it all the conveyor belts weren't working. It took me nearly two hours to check in. Perople going the ordinary route checked in in about half the time.

Next time Qatar Airways comes up with a new gimmick, I suggest they do a test run to see if the system wil actually work..

Happy Holidays to all..

i traveled to dubai on thursday with a friend, while he had to wait in the normal line i managed to check in online the same day, i had to wait for 5 minutes, he had to wait for about 45 minutes, i guess in my case the system worked, getting back from dubai on saturday was another case though, i had to wait over 2 hours to check in, and my flight was forced delayed for 1 hour because the line simply did not move....dont know what the problem was, but i made a vow never to fly economy on qatar airways ever again....

Hehe! I had a friend once tried to book a flight to Goa using airport code GOA. He ended up in Genoa, Italy :o)

True story! Would I lie to you?

Did you Google it first?

Thanks, Mandi. Didn't realize it was QR for Qatar Airways.

Most airlines have an automated check-in that reads your credit card and spits out your luggage tags and/or boarding passes. Guess they haven't installed that one yet.

Yes Mandi. You have to show up at the check in counter with the credit card you paid for the ticket with ... Which kinda sucks even more if your company bought the ticket with a corporate Credit Card!!!!!

Aaaauuughghg! People, please! QA is the two-letter code for MexicanaClick Airlines (formerly Aerocaribe.) QR is the code for Qatar Airways. I realize there isn't much danger of mixing up the two when reserving a ticket on-line but why not be accurate here!

You cannot print your boarding pass if you paid with a credit card?! Now that one makes NO sense.

It still sucks!

I booked online, checked in online, but still spend ages at the counter as you cannot print your own boarding pass if you paid with a credit card!!!!!

the baggage drop is a real muddle, but on short hops i still think its a very good idea. from qatar airways. maybe they should market it only to people travelling light . no baggage drop facility. idea copyright reserved

Err... but britexpat, YOU were part of their test run.

/But thanks for the heads up. Next time QA starts any new gimmick, I'll wait for a few months, maybe a year before I try it. Welcome back to the grindstone. Holeeday over.

After reading most of your comments, which amount to a lot of dross. I, perhaps should draw your attention to a few facts...

4th December was one of the busiest days at Doha Airport

I queued outside the terminal with my family

I also used qatarairways online check-in and had to wait for 90 minutes - however, this was due to the belt breaking and the staff not being able to clear the baggage

This was the 7th time I used their new check-in, before and since I've been checked-in under 2 minutes

The airport on the night of the 4th was the most busiest I've seen

I'd suggest, next time you want to fly you either:

a) - buy business class and use the P terminal (as I sometimes do)...

b) - fly another airline

c) - move back to "blighty" and never return

I'll keep my fingers crossed it is "c".

Never heard of this 'new' fast bag drop thing. Is it like you are just travelling with hand baggage?

Oh well, what ever it is, I guess I'll stick to the old tried and trusted check in and the occasional up-grade to business class cos QR have overbooked :D
