I don't understand why western people ready to pay antique carpets too much . Most of the antique carpets on the market (i mean in Turkey) have average or bad craftmanship and didn't protected well. Most of them didn't care how many knits per square cm , made by wool or silk , natural die used etc.

I rather prefer to buy new very well crafted wool or silk carpets (natural dies used) and keep them .

buy a new carpet and wait for 100 years

btw. some tend to cheat by getting a new carpet, "throw" it to the street and let the cars "antiquize" it

It's better to visit Turkey (Istanbul or Izmir )or Iran with an expert . This is the only way to find antique carpets with a reasonable price .

I know some people who make bad quality new hand made carpets antique , so you can be easily cheated if you don't have enough knowledge .
