Rydges staff are crying
Hope this topic will reap replies from those who have power to help us.
We are currently in the crisis situation. Our company is closed but we are not properly treated based on the law.
I know what's going on and I'm in stress right now hearing staff worries and concerns about their future. I come here to ask help because i know you can do something and can help us. The people who manage us are all pressured to all problems they are facing in the management and financial aspect. I'm not speaking for myself, im speaking on behalf of the people who come to me and ask like what's going on, what are they going to do, where to ask for help, why we can't be given any release, why we should go back to our country.
So i want to make this short, Rydges management forcing their staff to accept whatever jobs they can give even if very small salary. No more meeting take place from our management. They all keep the information by themselves. The one's who got their luck who joined Deliopolis company are now safe. The rest who keep on waiting are still worrying. Wherever we go, all they says NO RELEASE. They are forcing us to grab the job from any Al Faisal Holding Companies so that we will not end up going back to our country. We understand their pressures but we are worrying COZ EVEN SECOND GENERAL MEETING nothing. First & Last meeting was only last October 2008.
Everyday there is too much shouting in the office, everyday some staff will come along with their job offers but then end up disappointed coz NO RELEASE- THEY ARE WONDERING WHY THEY NEED TO GO BACK HOME IF THEY WANTED TO STAY. Where is their right, where is their freedom. Up to this moment that the hotel already closed, still some staff are in difficult situation. I CAN SAY BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM
ENCOUNTERED BY THE OWNER AND RYDGES DOHA MANAGEMENT ITSELF, the staff are in trouble.
Yesterday, the travel agent got a mistake of sending the confidential file. Instead of sending directly to the office of the Financial Controller it was sent directly to the open area fax machine and staff saw it. What is written there in the papers are all FLIGHT BOOKINGS FOR STAFF. The rest of the people who are not selected by DELIOPOLIS are all booked. The staff got surprised and sad because they are now going back to their own country soon. They are begging for their freedom, because it is not their fault why the company is CLOSED.
Further, the staff received a termination letter last 30th November 2008 as a notice period of working effective until 31st December 2008. Some says the staff still needs to come coz they are all paid within this month. The management are still utilizing their services until 31st December coz according to them they paid us within this month. Is it just and fair?
Above all, the management now are just thinking to send the staff home without any further question. They did the booking secretly, they plans behind our back. And now they can't even tell us until when we should be free. Even the department heads got trouble coz they're like robots moved by remote controls. And speaking of financial matters, we heard that all we received are gratuity, salary for this month, and leave/ PH pay. How about any separation pay? nothing.
The one month notice they say served as their help turns out to be our salary for this month coz up to this moment some of us are still working. Thats all Sir Tonkin, and i hope you can guide our way. We are all begging your help for this matter. If this letter is too much from your side, then we shall all respect you and prefer to go home if we don't have someone who can lift our spirit up. Thanks for reading Sir Tonkin.
Please extend help coz we have the right, human right.
Concern employee
to hear about what happened to you and your colleagues, but i believe those who are hired locally can contest the NO RELEASE coming from your management. there still some chance but, you need to act fast cause as what you mentioned they are already issuing tickets for a return back home. best of luck
Sorry to hear about your plight. You did not mention which area you were working in? Are you a Bar staff, waiter/waiteress front desk or reception? Just asking if different department are being treated differently and what about nationality are they favouring any particular nationality?
I saw the Rydegs Bar staff at Paloma on Saturday, it was like they were enjoying a farewell party or something..

I understand you're points of view coz you don't have all the details. Blaming or slandering is another issue. God knows how all of us wants to be free long time. I'll stop here and sorry if it annoys you.
i sincerely hope that the staff gets the attention and the help that they deserved and need...I was once in that difficult situation - losing of job - and it's heartbreaking specially if you have a family to support. I agree with Darude, please go there and see what are your options.
Thanks to your comment, actually that's my first plan to go home and forget this unfortunate job experience. The fact that some of our colleagues are local hired and still they are forced to go home even if they said that coming here in Qatar is an investment, u know they borrowed money to shoulder their expenses and all. I think it's very unfair to them. They should have to get strong reasons if they end up going home and still paying debts. At least having noise and appeal to human rights can put a scratch mark to the companies mentioned. And at least a bad reputation about how they dealt with staff can make a difference, and perhaps could change their attitudes of dealing employees in some future time.
Cry me a river, my dear.
People wind up in exactly the same situation every day of the week.
Your story was sad at first, now it's just annoying.
Again, I ask you the question - what makes you think that it's your RIGHT to get an NOC, regardless of what's happening within the company?
No expat in this country has the right to demand an NOC, and I can't see how a lawyer will argue that you are special and you alone deserve one.
As you say:
Where is their right, where is their freedom
Well the same is true for me and every other expat who is sponsored by a Qatari company. No one else is guarenteed these things, so get over it.
And on another note, you are now saying that the management of Rydges has lost control of signing documents. If that's the case, why are you saying:
"Rydges management forcing their staff to accept whatever jobs they can give even if very small salary."
Stop blaming and slandering Rydges Management for a problem that they neither created nor can now control. If they knew you were writing such BS in a public forum I'm sure they would do whatever they could to make sure you don't get an NOC.
So let me get this straight:
You're employed by Al Faisal Holding company.
You were working in Rydges Hotel, but the hotel is now closed.
Your sponsor is now forcing you to work in any other part of the holding company, and is refusing to give you an NOC to resign and find a job with any other company.
So how is this any different from any other employee of any other company in this country?
Your story is sad, but how is it different from anyone else in this country?????
If your sponsor wants you to continue working for him, why do you feel that you have the right to get an NOC and find a job elsewhere?
To rami-leb.....
Our sponsor is Rydges Hotel, and this hotel is an independent entity that has own authority to give a release paper coz it happens already to some other staff who resigned last year or few months ago before the hotel closed. Now what happen is that Rydges Hotel management has an internal problem with the owner which Al Faisal Co. The management of Rydges lose control to sign any documents and now thats why Al Faisal Co. took over all administrative procedures and signatures. Now the employee of Rydges suffers, thats the source of the problem.
timtan its closed because of Government issued request to take over the building for a strategic purpose. The government paid the Al Faisal Holding Co. who owns the building and the owner pays Rydges management...... but then even if they received tons of cash still employees are soon to receive peanuts final pay.
I think a lawyer can help to fight with us coz it's definitely not our fault that this hotel closed. If Release is too impossible, then we shall fight for the payment, the right payment that is due for us. You know someone in law profession?
my dear boy, maybe u look to young to drink. they worry 4 u falling over, calm down, please dont say shut up, not nice
i hope they never get a job again!!! idiots every time i come they make up something i come with girls they say its full i come with friends they say couples night!!! idiots go back home and think how you work.but he lets in ppl under 21 they give him money and he lets them in...idiot...
Hello Mr.timtan...
This letter is to a Sir Tonkin...whoever he may be!

Article 57 of the Labor Law can help you out from this situation or not at all. Better consult the legal experts.
that's how human rights works in some parts of the world.
*sigh*
well..Apple... that's sad...
so no wondering they want to look for the better opportunity... but cannot do it... and even after been terminated they are still not free...wow...

If you have done a move earlier, like resigning before it closes when you already overheared it will close maybe you were given an option... we all understand what you are going through, but what miracle could we give you for help at these final time? God make miracles so pray hard that they will give you release.. But if they did, are you ready to take the circumstances, like, where are you going to stay??? They are no longer responsible to where you stay and to pay for your ticket back home if you decided to stay. As of now it is really be hard for you to find a job because of crisis, considering the fact that they only employ Qataries as of now...dear, if you were me, just go on,,,God knows best, if you are intend to stay abroad, you will be, you might go home now but will soon come back if that is God's plan. Accept what your company had decided for you because, they too have thoghts about you all workers.. You think after they recruited you hey just want to pay a ticket to send you back home. But that is the least they can do. If you stay, it will take you alot of time, alot of nerve to find another job, alot of sufferings and you will end up looking for a job you could earn even only for ticket going home. Its not the end of the world, go home take time, till crisis pass and then come back for a better. If you accept it as it is, it wont be so hard. Believe me, life is so hard but if we get used to it, it wont be that hard,,,enjoy the time you will be with your family when you get back home, so next time you leave for abroad, you would be better.Gudluck and God be with you...

HMC provides other benefits and allowances aside from their basic salary Qr5k???
NHA giving at least Qr8k above as a start.
See the difference? Though HMC and NHA are govt. sectors but some hotels are semi-govt.
Inclusive all, except free meals during working hours. Hotels have almost the same salary scales for their employees.
ahhh sorry idprotected, I maybe out of your topic.
Apple.....HMC Pays their nurses QR 5,000 to 6000 approx.
Some get housing allowance of QR 5000, some only half and some nothing.
i was comenting on the guy thanking god these workers have lost there jobs,so keep urrrrrr comments to ur self,
my comennts have nothing to do with u,
wow... 5000QR for a nurse???.. it's about CAN$1400...in Canada 17-years old teenager makes more than that in McDonalds in his spare time...Qualified nurse in Canada can make about 50K-70K CAD Dollar a year, sometimes even more... which is about QR15-16K a month! what a difference!

They don't pay peanuts, they pay peanut shells. ;)
The internet is our revenge machine
I'm with you! its basic human rights. But if you ask for a release, its almost to impossible. Hotels pay less compared to other sectors and industries. I'll site you an example, an Employee Health Nurse with more or less 10yrs exp. will only receive an average sal. of Qr5000/ and that is from a 5* hotel. When in fact, they could earn double or more than that in other companies.
But to answer you, why they pay peanuts is out of my knowledge, that was my question too, till this very day.
REMEMBER MY POST???
EU praises Doha’s human rights efforts
EUROPEAN UNION’S member states yesterday praised the sincere efforts of Qatar to promote human rights and fundamental freedoms both internationally and locally.

didnt know rydges is closing... im hopin you'll be able yo figure out somethin though, just try to keep your ways in a diplomatic manner.

Apple..you say "if they start to give release to some employees, then everybody would look out for better opportunity outside.." ...isn't it a basic human rights, to "have rights" to "look out for better opportunity outside"? of course under certain rules and regulations, like contract duration and such...
and by the way, why do hotels in Qatar, with such crazy rooms prices and with such crazy drinks prices, still pay peanuts to their employees?

Usually, hotels dont give release or NOC to their employees if you transfer work to another hotels especially if it happens to be their competitors. They says its an Internal Company Policy. Coz if they start to give release to some employees, then everybody would look out for better opportunity outside coz hotels do pay peanuts.
But in this case, Rydges is shutting down? Then, I couldn't really understand why is it so hard for them to give a release. Its just a piece of paper that worth a future of their "HUMAN" employees.
Altogether, go to Labor Dept. and Human Rights Commission(along Dafna area). Good luck!
I wish they will get justice....but generally it dont happen here.... better try for another country.. here even National Human Rights are somehow bounded by Local policies..anyways I pray to Allah for their betterment.
...........HUMANS WITH NONHUMANTARIAN ACTS..........
country, your comment has nothing to do with the topic.. if you have nothing to say, don't poke your nose into the matter...and hey, may be you have to consider an anger management...
DaRush, i was going to say about the same.. but then I thought, most probably Rydges management checked their rights, and probably got kind of support before taking this step...it's not some small company that might remain unnoticeable..
but anyway, idprotected791503 on all you can do is to appeal to the Human rights...
flan, you have missed the Grand Closing.. :(
