Hi does anyone out there know anything about either of these schools? My email to Gulf English school bounced. Also the website for the Compass International School is not very informative.

I have 3 children in Gulf English School. Overall I am pleased with it. My children are half American half Qatari, so I appreciate them having islamic studies and Arabic. Most of the teachers have been good to great. My children are happy there and love learning. They have the unique option of GCSCE to year 11 and IB for 12 and 13. Class sizes are small, and they have many activities. The teachers are from UK, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Places are scarce, especially for kg-primary. If you are looking for places for next year (fall), best to contact them after the Christmas Break. School resumes Jan 4th.

Our son also goes to Compass, he's 4. We're Belgian, Dutch speaking and Alec had no problems whatsoever with the fact that he spoke and understood almost no English, as there are a lot of Dutch speaking kids and several Dutch speaking teachers. The school system is quite different from what we're used to in Belgium but we're really happy with the choice we made. The school is very multicultural, which can only broaden our son's horizon. Alec will learn different things then he would have learned in Belgium but we like that, as we feel that here they learn more 'about the world'. One downside: I find Compass ridiculously expensive (which is no problem off course if the full tuition fee is covered by your education allowance...).

Hi, my son will be starting with Compass Int School a couple of weeks after we arrive, late Jan. Hubby works for Vodafone in Doha. The school came highly recommended by Vodafone staff who have children there already. We visited the school and loved it. The Headmaster is British, teachers are various nationalities, british, dutch, american etc. We had a great tour of the school, looking into each class and all around the school, we were there for over an hour. We are really happy with Jos 4 yrs, starting in their pre-school class.

Let me know if I can help more.

Louise
