I have a UK driving license. How long can i drive for in Qatar without getting permission from someone?
When i need to get permission, where should i go, and what documents do i need to take with me?

Hi,

that's me again, forgot smth.

If you are in a rush, you can get the pass photos on site, just behind the afore mentioned corner of the yard, behind the building complex, you can find some people doing some services, such as assisting you on the paper work, taking photographs, translate..

Try it, it's funny :)

Hi, I've just arrived 3 weeks ago in QA, having the same task to be solved. My experience with my German driving license was as follows:

1. If you are here on a tourist visa like me (for 30 days or so), do the following:

- prepare 2 pass photos with non-white background

- prepare a copy of your driving license

- go to Traffic department (@ Khalifa road)

- in the yard on the right hand side, enter the door in the middle of the long wall, and find the reception

- ask the lady for issuing a temporary local DL

- she will give you a form to pass the eye test

- with that form and your 2 photos, go to the opposite corner, upstairs

- find another reception and ask for waiting number

- on your number, enter the room and pass eye test, teh ladies will stamp on your form

- with that form, go back to the 1st reception, and let you hand out another form

- that form is an application, enter your VISA number, your name, nationality,

- with that form find anybody who holds a local ID card and let him/her sign his/her name and signature on it

- attach a copy of his/her QA ID card

- I was told, even Hotels could probably help yo with that, but I personally never tried

- go back to traffic department reception with all your documents, and ask for waiting number

- on your number, go to the counter, hand over all your documents and pay QR150 with your credit card

- after 5 minutes you'll receive the temporary license, valid until expiration date of your visa

2. If you hold an int'l DL and tourist Visa and you are from Western countries, you don't need to do the above

You are allowed to drive for 7days with your UK Drivers License. But you are in luck, With the UK Drivers License you can get a Qatar Drivers license without doing a Test. You only have to take an Eye Test.

with any country's authentic license you can drive upto a period of 1 to 2 weeks maximum. after that you have to issue a permanent Doha's driving license, if you want to continue driving.

to issue a driving license here you have to go the traffic department situated in Madina Khalifa (town) and give a eye test, and after that you will have to submit few official documents and then later you can go for driving school etc...
